The Faculty of Nursing came into existence around the nucleus of Rufaida School of Nursing. It was established by Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb in 1983. It became College of Nursing in year 1994 and started B.Sc.(H) Nursing Programme. Jamia Hamdard became Deemed to be University in year 1989. The Rufaida School of Nursing was part of Majeedia Hospital prior to the formation of the Faculty of Nursing. The purpose of establishing the school was to contribute towards overcoming shortage of nurses in the country to some extent. The other aim was to encourage girls from Muslim minority community and weaker sections of the society to take up this noble profession. The courses offered by the faculty are recognized by the India Nursing Council (INC) .Besides, usual training in Hospitals, DGNM and B.Sc. Nursing students are posted in the Maternal and Child Health Centres and Primary Health Care Centres for field experience. During these postings they do the home visiting, and conduct health teaching programmes apart from the duties they have to perform in the centres. The Health talks usually conducted are on topics related to current health problems like, Malnutrition, Immunization, Cancer, Maternal and Child health, HIV/AIDS, Alcoholism, Malaria, Dengue, Hepatitis etc., They actively participate in the health camps organized by these Centres. The students have been participating in Perfect Health Melas on regular basis and have won several awards for the best stall and health education programmes.
