NRI Institute, New Delhi was established in the year 1989,
NRI INSTITUTE – a Non-Profit NGO registered body of People of Indian Origin was founded in the Year 1989, aiming to provide a platform for the Indians living in India and abroad. It promotes NRI investments in India and paves the way in this regard with an effective approach towards the Government and other authorities. The Institute highlights the achievements of NRIs and PIOs in their chosen field of activities. It brings out a fortnightly Newsletter updating NRIs the world over about the socio-economic and political happenings taking place in India. The Newsletter was released by the then Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Mr. Jagdish Tytler. The Newsletter is highly circulated on Internet and is available on our website.
The NRI Institute in association with BIB Media – Publishes NRI ACHIEVERS - Doing India Proud, “India’s only Magazine that celebrates the achievements of People of Indian Origin settled on foreign soil”. The Magazine was released on the 6th of July 2007, through a big launch in London by the Honourable Lord Swraj Paul in the presence of more than 250 guests, on 7th September by Counsel General of India to Dubai Shri Venu Rajamony in Dubai and on 23rd September 2007 the same was launched by Smt Meira Kumar, Union Minister of Justice Empowerment in the presence of Lord Paul and the Chairman of the Law Commission of India Dr. Justice A. R Lakshmanan in New Delhi. Judge Radall Rader and Deputy Ambassador of India in US, Mr. R. S. Jassal launched the second issue of the Magazine on 28th September 2007 at Hotel JW Marriott Washington DC in the presence of more than 500 guests.The Magazine is available on the website : www.nriachievers.org. Now, the NRI Achievers is published simultaneously from India, Dubai and Silicon Valley, California.
NRI INSTITUTE, over the years, has established Chapters in UK, USA, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bangkok, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Fiji, Trinidad & Tobago, Angola, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and chapters in USA include Washington DC, New York, California and New Jersey.
The INSTITUTE has so far organized 39 – a record of 22 International Conferences in India, 10 in London UK, one each in Bangkok, Singapore, Bahrain, New York, Detroit, Washington DC, Silicon Valley, California and 4 in Dubai. The Institute has also organized several successful Symposia on specific issues from time to time at the National and International level in India and abroad.

NRI Institute celebrated the Pravasi Divas, 2009 in New Delhi. The 3-day event was held at different venues from 9 – 11 January and provided a platform for the delegates of Pravasi Divas to interact with leaders, entrepreneurs and bureaucrats on important issues concerning the Diaspora all over the world.
# 1 Pravasi Divas Celebrated on 9 and 10 January. The British High Commissioner to India H E Sir Richard Stagg hosted dinner for the delegates at his residence 2, Rajaji Marg. Kavita Dwivedi, a famous Odissi dancer performed and was attended by more than 200 guests including Lord Khalid Hameed, Baroness Verma, Election Commissioner of India S Y Qureshi and Former Foreign Secretary M K Rasgotra.
#2 A day-long conference was organized on 10th January at Hotel the Lalit. The Chairman of the Law Commission, Dr Justice A R Lakshmanan inaugurated and eminent speakers were Tarlochan Singh M P, Baroness Sandeep Verma (UK), Dr Shan Nair (USA), Udai Patel (UK), Former CBI Director Joginder Singh, the Managing Director of Binani Group – Vinod Juneja, Akram Shaikh (UAE), Blair Gulland (UK) and others.
#3 The Chief Minister of Delhi Smt Sheila Dikshit hosted a reception for the delegates at her residence at 2, Motilal Nehru Place. A cheque of £4,000 was given for Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims of the Mumbai Terror Attack.
#4 A gala dinner was organized at Hotel the Lalit and Bharat Samman Pravasi Awards for the year 2008 was presented by the British High Commissioner to India H E Sir Richard Stagg. A cultural programme was organized by artists from London.
#5 Next day on 11 January, the Mauritius High Commissioner to India H E Mookhesswur Choonee hosted dinner to felicitate the recipients of Bharat Samman at Mauritius High Commission.
#6 The Mauritius Chapter of the NRI Institute was launched on 16 April by President of Mauritius H E Sir Anerood Jugnauth. A delegation of 50 members of the NRI Institute from various parts of the world participated. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between NRI Institute and GOPIO International, Mauritius in the presence of Hon’ble Dr Arvin Boolell, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade.
#7 NRI Institute hosted a dinner on 29 July in honour of the Conservative Friends of India, a parliamentary delegation headed by Shailesh Vara MP and Baroness Verma.
#8 NRI Institute gala Diwali dinner was organized on 19 October at the House of Lords, London. More than 150 guests from India and Britian were present, prominent among them were Lord Swraj Paul, Lord Michael Bates, India’s High Commissioner to UK, H E Nalin Surie, Members of Parliament Dominic Greaves and Shailesh Vara, Baroness Shreela Flather and Baroness Sandeep Verma were also present.
#9 The NRI Global Summit was organized at the Silicon Valley, California on 24 October. More than 300 delegates from India, US and other countries participated. The summit began with a keynote by Vinod K. Dham, famous as the Father of the Pentium and Founder and Executive Managing Director of NEA-IndoUS Ventures. #10 NRI Institute organized a reception to honour the President of Mauritius, H E Sir Anerood Jugnauth at the Speakers Hall Constitution Club, New Delhi. The President was honoured with the Bharat Samman Award by the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh H E Gen J J Singh. The event was attended by more than 300 guests including Tarlochan Singh MP, Dr Bhism Narain Singh, H E Mookhesswur Choonee, GVG Krishnamurthy and Ambassadors and High Commissioners of various Embassies and High Commissions. Later a dinner was hosted in the honour of the President at the Mauritius High Commission, New Delhi.
The Events for the Year 2010 as planned
#1 NRI Institute 20th year celebrations will coincide with Pravasi Divas 2010, at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi on 9 and 10 January. The theme of the Pravasi Divas will be “Celebrating the Glory of People of Indian Origin.” More than 200 high profile People of Indian Origin from various parts of the world have already consented to participate. The Bharat Samman – Pravasi Awards for the Year 2009 – honouring the incredible global India will be presented to the People of Indian Origin on the occasion.
#2 Launching of Doha (Qatar Chapter) on 19 and 20 February at Season’s hotel, Doha.
To keep Indians well informed about the achievements and problems of NRIs through conferences, seminars, symposia, journals and exchange of visits of delegations.
To promote NRI investments in India and pave the way for them in this regard with an effective approach to the Government and other authorities.
To keep NRIs well informed about socio-political, socio-economic and cultural events in India and promote their interest in the heritage of India, by proper communication and media coverage.
To look after NRIs interests in India and other countries where they may face sudden difficulties or crisis and take necessary remedial measures in such situations.
To establish a forum for Indians living in India and abroad to get-together and cultivate the spirit of brotherhood and help create a conducive investment climate.
To honour such NRIs / People of Indian origin who achieve success and brilliance in different walks of life, and to familiarize the people in India with the same. To establish Chapters in different countries by appointing office bearers / Committee Members.
