Established in 1954, Kirori Mal College (KMC) has made a mark in academics, sports, debate, drama, music and fine arts. The college has an Alumni Association to keep alive interest in life, and sense of belonging. Many alumni of the college occupy positions of prestige in various walks of life – academics, civil services, defence, industry, cinema et al.
Today KMC, as it is popularly known in DU slang, stands for many things: a premier centre of learning, a college that stands tall in extra-curricular activities (its debating society DEBSOC is widely considered the best in DU). And a college that has given to India the greatest entertainer that Asia has ever known — the superstar of the millennium, the one and only Amitabh Bachchan.
The college has the provision for teaching Elective English and Elective Hindi. The subjects may be taken in lieu of English Core and Hindi Core. The combination of the two subjects will be selected by the student. Change of Subject/Transfer from One Course to Another No change of subject will be allowed without the prior permission of the Principal. The permission should be obtained in writing within four weeks of the commencement of the session. Transfer from one course to another is generally not permitted. However if there is a vacant seat, the case may be considered for transfer, provided the student has the requisite merit. Transfer from Honours to Pass Course in second-year Cases will not be considered if the marks obtained by the student at plus-two level is less than the marks obtained by the last student admitted in that particular course of the previous year. In the case of SCs/STs, any seat falling vacant in the reserved category in second-year of pass/general course will be filled in order of the performance of SC/ST students in the first-year University examination. Post-graduate Courses M.A./ M.Sc. Students seeking admission in the Master's course are required to get themselves registered with Faculty of Arts, Science, Social Science and Mathematics respectively.
Kirori Mal College began as Nirmala College, which was started by American Jesuits following the partition of India. It was originally located on Qutab Road. After the partition of India, due to staffing problems, the management of the college changed hands and a trust founded by Seth Kirori Mal took over the college.

It also has a fully computerised library, a state of art computer centre, a well equipped seminar room,a well functioning placement cell, gymnasium and sprawling lawns. Kirori Mal College is known for its dynamic and progressive cultural environment. Theatre, Debating and Music are the mainstays.
