OMD M.F.A. Dance - The Master of Fine Arts in Dance is a two-year terminal degree program focused on dance performance and/or choreography in an interdisciplinary environment of reflective practice. The M.F.A. in Dance allows students to take full advantage of the broad scope of resources of the Department of Theatre and Dance, the College of Fine Arts, and the university as a whole. Courses in dance technique, choreography, arts management, pedagogy, technology, dance legacy and fields related to artistic process and scholarship form the core curriculum. With advisement from the program director, students develop an individualized program of study that furthers their unique interests and prepares them for multiple professional destinations as dance artists, administrators, scholars and teachers.
The master of fine arts in dance is designed to deepen students’ understanding and practice of dance as an embodied art form uniting creative, analytical, spiritual, and physical skills. By studying one-on-one with accomplished faculty from a diversity of backgrounds, students have the opportunity to develop, then refine, their unique movement language, and through that process to grow as artists and human beings.
