M.Tech Petroleum Geology - Petroleum geology is the study of origin, occurrence, movement, accumulation, and exploration of hydrocarbon fuels. It refers to the specific set of geological disciplines that are applied to the search for hydrocarbons (oil exploration).Petroleum exploration in India is undergoing a major renaissance since the implementation of the New Exploration Licensing Policy of the Government of India. The Indian and multi-national upstream oil and gas companies are making major investments in petroleum exploration and there is a growing demand of highly skilled manpower in the country. Exploration in deep water and search for alternative sources of hydrocarbon resources, including gas hydrates and coal-bed methane, are gaining ground. This is leading to new opportunities for teaching and research in petroleum geoscience.
