Master of Philosophy (M.Phil in Applied Geology), is a two years postgraduate Geology degree level course of study in India. This is the study which associates with the Earth and process that changes the shape and the form of the Earth. The Geology study is specially designed with the provision of high quality geotechnical and contaminated land ground investigation and professional service to the property dealer, civil engineering & construction, geotechnical and also environmental sectors.
The master level professional study emphasized in the wide areas which include paleontology, metamorphic petrology, sedimentary petrology, thermodynamics, mineralogy, igneous petrology, tectonics, stratigraphy and India Geology, ore petrology.
The course prepares candidates with the ability and understanding of the geological formation, classification and morphology of rocks and the important aspects of the geology for civil engineering with regard to funding structures like Dam, Bridges, building, candidates are also able to undertake activities related to laboratory investigation is a responsible and safe manner.

The course of study is designed to provide in-depth knowledge, information, techniques and about the activities associated with Applied Geology, in a comprehensive manner. The study is focused on theoretical and practical aspects and principles techniques in an academic discipline such as Geology, physic and Chemistry of the Earth, Mineralogy, Instrumentation and Analytical Techniques, Computer Techniques in Geological Science, Geological Field Training, Engineering and Mining Geology, Environmental Geology, Fuel Geology.
The candidate has to complete Master Degree such as Master of Science in Applied Geology (M.Sc.Applied Geology) or equivalent examination, with minimum aggregate 60% marks, such candidates are eligible to take admission in Master’s degree study program.
This course requires study requires 2 years of time period in India, It’s a Full Time professional degree course, but some candidates use part time, correspondence education program and also go for distance learning, study option to earn this degree.
After the successful completion of this course, candidates can also pursue the higher studies and do Ph.D. (Doctorate in Applied Geology), and specialization or research oriented work in their respective field.
