The Diploma in Teaching Young Deaf & Hard of Hearing - Program course work deals with areas pertinent to the education of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. These include language and literacy development, educational audiology, curriculum and instructional methods, Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing studies, and American sign language, as well as specialized topics such as classroom amplification, teaching in the mainstream, listening and speech skill development, ASL linguistics, Deaf culture and community and bilingual-bicultural education. Courses are taught by full-time faculty members and practitioners in the field of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Education. A supervised integrated practicum is included in the program.
