Certification Teaching of English (CTE) - Educators who specialize in teaching English to foreign-speaking individuals can find jobs around the world in education, business and travel. Many universities and colleges offer post-baccalaureate or extension certificate programs for specific training in teaching English as a foreign language. These programs are designed to train individuals in the art and science of language pedagogy. The curriculum is divided between the theoretical and practical, with emphasis placed on the principles and methodology of language acquisition along with the skills required for effective cross-cultural communication. Certificate candidates also learn the skills needed for curriculum and syllabus design. Some programs feature a practicum, in which the individual spends part of a semester student teaching under direct supervision.
