Biotechnology is highly multidisciplinary,it has its foundation in many fields including biology, microbiology,biochemistry,molecular biology,genetics and Chemistry.Modern biotechnological processes include a wide range of new products including antibiotics,vaccines and monoclonal antibodies.Other advances include transgenic plants ,transgenic animals and gene therapy in human to treat uncurable diseases.
The dramatic development of biotechnology owes its major credit to the capacities that have achieved in recent years in gene analysis and gene manipulation. Application of this knowledge to various fields like agriculture, food , medicine has provided as product and process never available before. Understanding of nature itself could become easier and convincing with development of tools and techniques of modern genetics.
Genetic engineering, Recombinant DNA technology, cloning, protein engineering, DNA finger printing, transgenic animals, gene therapy and many more techniques are amongst the recent contributions to the field of Biotechnology. The whole new fields of genomics, bioinformatics and proteomics are a step further in this development. All this goes on with the hope to achieve control and regulation on our life process.
