Department Of English The department of English has been playing a role of sheet anchor since its inception in 1944. Its popularity never came down as it always catered to the needs of the students .Our department has cultivated a rich tradition of teaching and learning through earnest efforts of prominent scholars like Dr. S.C.Nandimath (M.A, PhD, London) former Vice Chancellor in charge &former Registrar of Karnataka University, Dharwad, Dr R H Hiremath former Vice chancellor of Karnataka University Dharwad, Prof L G Hiremath, Dr B K Hiremath and the tradition is kept alive. We are proud to say that Dr S C Nandimath –an ever lasting pearl of the language department, who had fluency over Kannada, English, Sanskrit & Packrat literature-found our institution. TThe recent developments like globalization, privatization and liberalization and the rapid growth of the information technology have certainly enhanced the prospects of English studies in India. In the changed scenario, English department has got to play a major role in future. To adjust with the changing circumstances, the department has planned to bring some changes.
