M.A Economics
The Department of Economics at Shivaji College is known for the versatility of its teachers and students and their alacrity in coming up with innovative ideas. Social and moral values are ingrained within a broad and balanced curriculum, in a hope that students at Shivaji College explore new avenues and achieve greater success . The department has always been enthusiastically involved in juxtaposing curricular and co-curricular activities for the students at undergraduate level.
The faculty comprises of experienced and dedicated teachers who with their expertise and unflinching efforts, ensure effective impart of knowledge and academic excellence.
Sh. R.S. Bhardwaj, an experienced and senior member of the faculty has written books and prepared study materials in subjects like Business Statistics, Mathematics and Microeconomics, that are religiously followed by the students of Delhi University and are also recommended to the students of other universities. Business Statistics, a book written by him, has also been selected by the University of North Virginia, USA, to be published in USA for the students obtaining erudition in that university.
Beside academics, a gamut of co-curricular and extra curricular activities are organized by the department every year to hone the skills of students and contribute to their holistic development while they graduate.
Academic/Extra-curricular Activities
The academic result of the course has been noteworthy. Besides performing well in annual examinations every year, a good proportion of the students studying at Shivaji College get admissions at masters level in prestigious institutions like Delhi School of Economics and various reputed business schools.
Scholarships
Meritorious students of the Department of Economics at Shivaji College are felicitated with the annual scholarship under "P. C. Ganguly Memorial Scholarship". Dr. Pradeep Ganguly, Director, Montgomery County, Department of Economic Development, served Shivaji College for a few years before he moved to the USA He introduced this scholarship program to award and encourage meritorious students with poor financial background. Every year a sum of Rs. 3000/- is awarded to one student of Economics from each year of B.A.(Hons) Economics and B.A.(Prog.), taken together. The scholarship is awarded to a student on the basis of evaluation of a written essay, academic result, per capita income of the family, and the overall performance.
Annual Inter College Festival
PARETO.COM, an annual inter- college festival is woven together by three departments of Shivaji College in order to put up a riveting exposition of mind, matter and wholesome entertainment. Deparments of Economics, Commerce and Business Economics band together their endeavours to provide myriad opportunities for young talent to exhibit their intellect and creative bent through participating in various activities oraganized during the festival.
