The Department of Hotel Management & catering science was established in the year 1993, affiliated to the University of Madras, In 1999 the department came under Periyar University .The department is well equipped with all infrastructural facilities and widely spread laboratories. The main object of the department is to produce individuals who will be able to cater to all sectors of the Hospitality industry. Besides developing skills and knowledge, the students are groomed with managerial skills to the extent of managing and controlling of entire Hospitality industry. The students who undergo this course have style to challenge Food and Hospitality industry.

Department Achievements
Through the Association of the department “FPHM”(Fraternity of professionals in Hotel Management ) various programmers, such as guest lecturers, seminars, work shops, community out-reach Programmers has been arranged for the benefit of the students and staff.
The uniqueness of the department is that it has bagged many consecutive Gold Medals and other pioneering Ranks in the university examination.
Regular conduct of seminars, Industrial visit, interaction of industry professionals with students, work shop for Personal development etc helped in improving the overall student’s quality.
In House theme parties, annual Food Festivals and such other activities organized by the students help them in developing leadership qualities, team building and skills, to play in big plat form.
To develop extra curricular activities, students participate in cultural event, sports meet, and proven their track record in sports to at university level.
Industrial visits are arranged for the students to have exposures of various tourist places.
The students are placed in reputed hotels, cruise lines, Airlines and catering industries.
The department is playing a vital role in Organizing special Lunch and Dinner for dignitaries, on various occasions.
Students are Training for Campus interview.
The internationally acclaimed training methodology is designed to consistently involve the student in the actual job of Hotel management in all its facets, who can compete globally in their profession.
To update the knowledge and improve the skills in teaching, the faculty members attend orientation courses conducted by the college.
Students of 1994-1997 batch participated in the cookery competition conducted by M.S. Ramaiaha College of Hotel Management ,Bangalore. Our Students won 2nd prize,titled "Cordon Bleu" .
Students of 2002-2004 batch participated in the cookery competition conducted by V.L.B JanakiAmmal college of Arts & Science,Coimbatore. Our Students won 2nd prize,titled "The flavour" .
Our Department had been adjudged 5th place and 4th place in state level during the year 2003 & 2004 respectively by the SUN NETWORK SURVEY.
