Department of Botany The department of Botany is as old as the College itself and has always remained in the forefront of academic activities of the College. The department has always carried with it a missionary zeal for motivation among students and contributed significantly to the socio-economic traits of human development with a concern for environmental protection and conservation of the natural resources of this region. The Department has, through various methods and techniques infused knowledge, abilities and skills in the students in order to reaching their realized goal. In the recent years, the Department in collaboration with M.S.SWAMINATHAN RESEARCH FOUNDATION (MSSRF), Phulabad, Jeypore, has worked on the Medicinal plants of the Eastern Ghats. This Department has a Seminar library with around 500 books and journals. Regular seminars are held weekly in which students as well as teachers present papers,discuss topics of curricular interest and recent developments in the field of Biology. The Department is equipped with all modern instruments for research work in Biotechnology. It has also a Culture Room with all equipments for tissue culture and algal cultures experiments. The pride possession of the department is its well-trained, highly qualified and well informed faculty members who are excellent teachers. In February 2007 the Department along with the Department of Zoology, sponsored by the UGC, organized a National Seminar on Bio-technology Application in Medicinal Plants and Food Processing in the College. Many renowned scientists and researchers participated in the proceedings of the seminar and provided valuable inputs to the study of different medicinal plants. The Department also regularly invites eminent scientists and academicians from time to time to inspire and motivate students for higher studies in Biological Sciences. The Department also conducts study tours to provide sufficient exposure to our students about the flora and fauna of this rich biome. All these academic activities in the recent years have resulted in a rapid rise of interest for bio- related subjects in this area.
