The Department of Botany at Shivaji College is a thriving department with highly-qualified teachers who have made outstanding contributions in fields like Ecology, Mycology and Plant Pathology, Embrology, Bryophytes, Plant Physiology, Biotechnology and Genetics etc.
Academic/Extra-curricular Activities
The Botanical Society “Fragrance” organized its inaugural lecture on September 18, 2009. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Rajendra Gupta, Department of Botany, University of Delhi on the topic “Social and Ethical Consequences of Rise of Biotechnology”. Around 200 hundred students from Life Science, Botany, Zoology, and Physics attended the lecture. After the lecture various activities like Rangoli, Collage Making, and Pot Decoration were organized. Students from various Departments actively participated in the activities. A symposium will be held in the last week of December.
Students of Botany Department participated in various intra-college and inter-college activities and won prizes.
Students from the Department participated in B.M. Johri Rolling Shield organized by the Department of Botany, University of Delhi on the topic “Food Security vs. Fuel Security” in 2009.
A student of B.Sc. (Hons) III won the first prize in the College Annual Function “Aghaaz” 2009 in Cartoon Making Competition.
A student of Botany (Hons) III received a cash prize of Rs.1000/- in the debate competition organized by Bhagini Nivedita College.
A student of Botany (Hons) I won the first prize – a cash prize of Rs. 1100/- - in the “Quiz-Medhavi” organized by NSUI in 2009.
Some students were also awarded consolation prize in slogan writing competition organized on Teacher’s Day by ICFAI at Shivaji College.
