    B.Sc Biotechnology ( Eligibility: A candidate who has passed – Higher Secondary Examination under Higher secondary board of Examination, Tamilnadu or as per norms set by the government of Tamilnadu or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the syndicate subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereto are permitted to appear and qualify for the B.Sc Biotechnology Degree.)

    Duration: Three years (with six semesters)

    The department of Biotechnology was established in the year 1999 - 2000 affiliated to the Periyar University, Salem. The Department offers a three year B.Sc., Degree course, two year M.Sc., Degree course in Biotechnology. The Research programme was started in the year 2009 - 2010. The department imparts quality education with hands on experience to fit into the biotech industries. The importance of biotechnology has been realized in the last few years by many industries. The need of trained manpower in this area is on increase, we cater the needs of the industries. Eminent scientists from various premier educational / research institutes help the students with their expert guidance. Apart from this, the students are taught about recent advancements in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics through internet facility and guest lectures regularly. The ultimate idea of our department is to encourage the students to come up with their innovative ideas to utilize our fully equipped laboratory for the betterment of the society through biotechnological ideas.

    Through the association of the department Bio gems many seminars, symposium and workshop has been arranged for the benefits of the students and staff.
    The faculty members participated as resource person in various workshops and seminars.
    Students participated in International and National level seminar.
    Students are permitted to attend various in-plants training in reputed industries to explore their knowledge.
    Department organized state level and National level Seminars, Symposium and work shop.
    Industrial visit are arranged for the students to give them practical exposure, which is a part of their curriculum.
    The department is committed and indulged with the prime goal achieving placement-oriented education with recent trends coupled with discipline and human values.
    The department is producing so many rank holders of Periyar University every year.
    The department is tie-up with the institutions such as Institute of Vector Control board, Growmore Biotech Pvt Ltd, Central sericulture board –Hosur, ACME Progen Salem and Saibioscience Pvt Ltd, Coimbatore.
    The students of the department have represented state and university level in many sports events.
    The students are placed in leading multinational companies across the globe like Biocon , Reddy’s Laboratory and Ranbaxy.
