The Department of Biochemistry came into existence in the year 1996, with an aim of educating young women students upto undergraduate level, as Biochemistry in recent years has become one of the most popular and highly sought-after science courses providing enormous career and research opportunities. Our Department has the unique honour of being the only college, which offers this subject in an aided college, affiliated to the University of Madras whereas, all other colleges offer it only as a self – financed course. We are proud that our department was ranked No.1 across the country by the UGC for implementation of this vocational Biotechnology program. B.Sc Degree programme is conducted under two streams: (1) B.Sc. Biochemistry (General). (2) B.Sc. Biochemistry with the vocational Biotechnology.
