The institute was established on 25th may, 1982, to meet the emerging need of skilled diploma engineers and for the development of technical education in the distant tribal area of Chhattisgarh. The institute is located at the heart of city Ambikapur in Surguja Division. Late Mr. S.N. Awasthi was the founder principal of this college. In the session 1983-84, Dept. of Civil Engineering was established with an intake of 30 students .As the district Surguja is known for its abundant mineral resource of Coal and bauxite, thus viewing the growing demands of Mining Engineers, Dept. of Mining and Mine Surveying was established in the session 1988-89. With the passage of time more courses were added in the curriculum. At present there are 06 branches of engineering with an intake of 42 students in each branch. The total intake of students per year is 252. Currently, there are more than 700 students pursuing diploma in this premier institute. The institute has its own building located in a lush green campus which is spread over 24 acres of land. The campus comprises of more than 100 rooms and fully equipped laboratories with most modern equipment based on latest technology for different disciplines of engineering. The institute also has different workshops, library with more than 40000 books, reading room, conference hall, sports ground and beautiful garden in each block. Currently the institute has 32 highly qualified lecturers and 82 supporting staff dedicatedly committed to impart quality technical, academic and professional education in different streams of engineering. The institute has a boy’s hostel of 102 beds and a girl’s hostel of 52 beds and there are 31 quarters for accommodation of college staffs. The diploma courses of this institute are recognized by All India Council for Technical Education AICTE. Presently, this institute is affiliated to Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University CSVTU, Bhilai. The institute enjoys strong relationship with major industries of Chhattisgarh. It is firmly committed to its responsibility towards the society. Many social service projects are undertaken like Community , Development Through Polytechnic CDTP are conducted under ministry of human resource development MHRD, Government of India and Chhattisgarh Government with a view to act as focal point of development for rural community to generate self-reliance among under privileged and unemployed rural youth. With its motto of “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached” the institute is committed towards producing quality diploma engineers to cater for the needs of industry, society and the country.
