Having gained the Classical Language status in 2004, Tamil is well poised to make giant strides in the forthcoming years especially in the areas of education, research, and publication. Accordingly, the government of India has established a Central Institute for Classical Tamil (CICT) to promote classical Tamil in all possible areas including the ones mentioned above. In this context, Central University of Tamil Nadu has commenced a two-year postgraduate programme in Classical Tamil, which is a timely gesture to join hands with CICT in order to further the cause of classical Tamil and establish it as a significant academic programme.
