Nalanda educational society was established in the year 1991. The objectives of the society are to impart quality education to all aspirant students irrespective of caste, creed and religion and to promote education in the backward area of Nalgonda district. The society felt impelled to start Pharmacy College as there is no such college in Nalgonda district and due to ever increasing demand for the course in the district. Consequently, Nalanda College of Pharmacy was started in the year 1995 offering B.Pharm, course under the aegis of this society and Dr. G.Achaiah, M.Pharm, Ph.D., took over the charge as the first Principal of the College. The college started functioning in a rented building in Nalgonda. D.Pharm course was started in 1997. The college premises was shifted to a near by village Marriguda in 1998 to accommodate B.Pharm and D.Pharm students. College day celebrations were conducted every year with active participation of staff and students. Our own college building was constructed in January 2000.
First batches of D.Pharm and B.Pharm students completed the courses in 1999. Pass percentage of B.Pharm, I batch is about 97% while that of D.Pharm, is 91.2%. To date, 6 batches of both B.Pharm and D.Pharm have been successfully completed. Our students participated actively in several industrial/educational tours regularly from 1995. About 20 students of previous B.Pharm, final year batch and some staff attended 54th I.P.C held at Hyderabad. We used to conduct sports and cultural week regularly every year and students participated actively in them. Our students along with staff took a procession in support of Indian soldiers who fought for our country in Kargil and contributed significant amount of bereaved families. As the I batch of B.Pharm has come out in 1999, we have started old students association under the name “Nalanda Pharma Alumni Association, Nalgonda”. The association has released its first news letter recently informing them about the various developmental activities including inauguration of the college new building.
We are planning to start I.P.A Nalgonda branch and have proposals to regularly conduct National Pharmacy Week Celebrations to highlight the role of pharmacist in health care of the society and educating the citizens on matters of personal health care management. P.C.I has identified our college as a center for the conduct of professional and society oriented workshops and financial assistance will be made available to our institute to meet the contingent expenses for conducting such workshops. So, the conducting of a workshop for the benefit of the inservice pharmacists, teachers, and community pharmacists of Nalgonda region is imminent. Thus we have to do a lot of hard work in future to uphold the profession of pharmacy in this district thereby contributing to the pharmaceutical and medical knowledge base. Therefore, we are counseling eclecticism until our goals are fulfilled. Nalanda educational society was established in the year 1991. The society firmly believed that technical education will play a significant role in accomplishing future productivity economic goals and increasing the living standards through out the world. Against this back drop the society has planned to start a pharmacy college in the backward Nalgonda District where there was no technical education institute. As such Nalanda College of pharmacy was started offering B.Pharm course in 1995 and D.Pharm course was started in 1997. First, Second and third batches of B.Pharm and D.Pharm, students completed the courses in 1999, 2000 and 2001 respectively. We now feel optimistic that our college students will excel in the academic achievements by utilizing the services of excellent faculty and the facilities and make our dream of creating a top tier institution among the pharmacy colleges. The management will strive hard to provide all the required facilities from time to time.
