Located in The College made a modest beginning at Lalbagh near University campus in Darbhanga in the year 1958 offering Intermediate Arts programme. Thereafter, it made rapid growth both in size and stature. Presently, college campus is spread over nine acres of land in lush green surroundings with extensive play grounds and open spaces. College has more than 24 full time distinguished faculty, 12 Guest Faculty and two Part Time Teachers with good number of non-teaching staff., At present, College imparts teaching up to honours level in 19 subjects and post- graduate level in ten subjects. Post graduate Courses are offered in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Economics, English, Hindi, History and Political Science. There is provision for special classes for benefit of slow- learners., Historical evolution of this College started with primary education for girls, being managed and maintained by a non – government organization named Jan – Kalyan Trust. It evoked overwhelming response from the society. Encouraged by the ever increasing number of admissions in High school, the members of Jan Kalyan trust decided to establish an institution for higher education. Inflow of the students encouraged members of the trust to establish an institution for women. Late Pandit Girindra Mohan Mishra, a great jurist and an aide of Raj Darbhanga, Late Lala Padmanabh Prasad, a benevolent person and a great scholar of philanthropic taste and Dr. LK Mishra, a great academician took up this mammoth task and successfully established a tutorial college naming it as Maharani Rameshwari Mahila Tutorial college in 1958, associating themselves as members of the governing body. Subsequently, Pandit Radha Nandan Jha, former Speaker and Sri Dwarika Nath Jha, a trustee of the Raj Darbhanga also associated themselves with the college management. Fortunately, Mrs Kamakhya Devi well known by her pen name Neeraj Renu, happened to be the first student of this college. She rose in her own spirit to become an academic luminary and won Sahitya Academy Award in Maithili., For all round personality development of students, College regularly organizes Workshops on communication skills, Good Laboratory practices, Clean India Initiatives, Quiz and other innovative teaching practices., The college had many ‘first’ to its credit – It is the first Women College of Lalit Narayan Mithila University to offer PG courses and the first to adopt E-Learning methodology including virtual lab., College also provides proper platform for all round development of students through activities of Sports, NCC, NSS and Cultural activities. We encourage participation and involvement of our students in the academic and cultural life of the College., The Science block has separate UG and PG labs with well equipped facilities., To encourage self-learning and to satisfy the thirst for knowledge of the students, the college library has a massive collection of books with about 21665 books and sufficient number of journals and magazines, a spacious reading room, separate floor for teachers and research scholars. Library of the college is considered as the best College library in the University. Library has inflibnet facility as well., Every student finds her expression through College Students Union, which is very vibrant. The Career-counseling and placement assistance of the college provides suitable employment to graduating students., College campus is completely Wi-Fi with large no of computers and Internet facility as well., The college has three hostels for the girl students namely Kasturba, Kalyani & Shishir hostels.
