Located in It is on September, 17, 1962 that the college saw the light of the day thanks to the untiring efforts of a host of educationists and pubic activists of Majuli, the most populous river-island and the hub of Sattriya culture. A public meeting was held at Majuli Milan Sangha, Kamalabari sometime in the month of March, 1962 with the sole objective of having a discussion on founding a college at Majuli for higher education. The meeting arrived at a momentous decision to set up a college with immediate effect. It is to be noted in this respect that a Steering Committee consisting of members from all communities of entire Majuli was constituted to go ahead with the task of founding the proposed college., Late Keshabram Borah was made President and late Krishna Kanta Goswami Secretary of the Steering Committee. These two illustrious sons of Majuli toured every nook and corner of Majuli on foot, mobilized public opinion and collected donations for the proposed college. It is owing to the iron will, indomitable spirit and insatiable urge for higher education of the Majulians that Majuli College was established on September 17, 1962 at Kamalabari despite all odds and ordeals caused by the unprecedented flood of the year and thus the long-cherished dream of the people was fulfilled. Prior to the establishment of this institution, those desirous of receiving higher education had to go outside Majuli and it was an arduous task for both students and guardians to meet the requirements for the purpose. Majuli College cut the Gordian knot and higher education in Majuli dawned with it. Credit goes to late Keshabram Borah, the founder President, and late Krishna Kanta Goswami, founder Secretary of the College Governing Body for their untiring efforts and dedicated service. In the inception, the college had been located in the building of Majuli Auniati Hem Chandra High School for several years., Later in 1967, with the financial support from Auniati Satra and Dakshinpaat Satra the college succeeded in possessing a building of its own. Since then many other buildings have been annexed to the main structure sometimes with U.G.C. grant and sometimes with financial aid from the State government. The long-standing demand of a library building was fulfilled in 1997 with U.G.C. grants. Late Karuna Dutta, local M.L.A. and Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, M.P. also extended financial help for Building Construction of the college.
