Srikishan Sarda College, (Popularly known as S. S. College) is one of the premiere higher educational institution in Hailakandi. It was established on 18th September 1950. At that time Hailakandi was a subdivision of Cachar District but now it can be said that, this particular institution is the oldest higher educational institution in the present Hailakandi district. The college was named Srikishan Sarda College, after the name of the father of Srichand Sarda, who donated Rs. 15,000.00 to college fund at those initial days. The land of the college was donated by Late Pratap Chandra Nath, former Deputy Inspector (D.I) of schools.The college celebrated its golden jubilee in the year 2000. The Science stream of the college started in the year 1958 and the college celebrates its golden jubilee for science stream in the year 2008 also. Presently the college is running with both arts and science faculty simultaneously. Besides these the college is running career oriented courses like Biotechnology, Electrical and electronic maintenance & Computational technique in applied Statistics (UGC Sponsored) NAAC peer team visited the college in the year 2004 and awarded the college B+ grade which expires on 4th Nov 2009. Presently the college prepares the Reaccreditations Report and submitted the same to the NAAC for reaccreditation of the college.

Presently Department of Science and Technology (DST) supported the institution. Which will facilitate the institution to improve its science faculty to the next extent by means of research development, infrastructure development and to purchase new and modern instruments?

Srikishan Sarda College, Popularly know as S. S. College was established on 18th September in the years 1950. It is the oldest higher educational institution in the present day Hailakandi district. At that time the college was affiliated with Gauhati University, but after the establishment of Assam University, Silchar, (A Central University constituted under act XIII of 1989), The college get its affiliation under this university from the year 1994. The college is recognized by UGC under act 2(f) and 12 (b) of the UGC act 1956.The college is situated in the Hailakandi district in the state Assam, India. The place where the college is located is a remote place. The nearest airport is Silchar Airport, which is nearly 65KM away from the college. Though Hailakandi rail station is nearly 1.5Km away from the college but no direct train connects the place to the rest of the country. Daily night bus service is available, through which the place is connected to the rest of the country.

Late Sisir Kar Sashtri, a versatile personality and eminent scholar was the founder Principal of this college , whose untiring efforts, coupled with sincere co-operation from localite and conscious citizens ensures Smooth establishment of the college.
