Bongaigaon Law College was established in 1993, affiliated to Gauhati University, Assam. The College is approved by Bar Council of India, New Delhi. Bachelor of Laws LLB, which is a three-year programme. Bar Council of India has set guidelines to conduct this course. Bongaigaon Law College has a number of modern facilities for its students.

The public of Bongaigaon felt a need of Law College in the newly created District of Bongaigaon. Accordingly a Public meeting was held on 15.11.1992 in the premises of Birjhora HS School, Bongaigaon. In the meeting a resolution was unanimously adopted to establish a law college named Bongaigaon Law College and eminent educationist BC. Pathak and JB Das, Advocate were elected unanimously as President and Secretary respectively of the sponsoring committee and the then President, Bongaigaon Bar Association Gopal Ch Das, Advocate was requested to serve as founder Principal of the Bongaigaon Law College.

The sponsoring committee got permission from the Gauhati University and established the Bongaigaon Law College on 25.1.1993 in the premises of the Birjhora H.S. School, Bongaigaon. The Gauhati University granted temporary affiliation to the Bongaigaon Law College wef. 1993-94 and the Bar Council of India, New Delhi also granted temporary affiliation to the Bongaigaon Law College wef. 1993-94 sessions.

The new college AT building was inaugurated on 1.11.1994 by then Honble Vice-Chencellor NK CVhoudhury and the classes which were started temporarily in the Birjhora HS School were shifted to the new Building. The building was constructed with the financial help from the Bongaigaon Refinery and from the Untied Fund of the Deputy Commissioner, Bongaigaon and the then Honble MP Uddhab Barman and from public support on the plot of land in the heart of Bongaigaon Town allotted by the learned members of the Land Advisory Board, Bongaigaon District. The Chairman of the Municipality Late. Bhupen Ch Das, was kind enough to give us no objection of the Plot of land situated in the heart of Bongaigaon town.

After Gopal Ch Das the founder and first Principal, who was friend, philosopher and guide to us, Shri JB Das, MA, LLB., Advocate, the founder Secretary, took over the charge of Principal, Bongaigaon Law College who is still serving as honorary Rector & Secretary of the Bongaigaon Law College. Dr Mridula Barman, BA Hons, LLM, DIPL, PhD now serving as Principal wef 29th August, 2016.

The College obtained NOC No Objection Certificate from the Govt of Assam on 3.1.2009. The college obtained Permanent Affiliation from the Gauhati University on 27.2.2010 from the Session 2009-10. The Bar Council of India issued Affiliation on 14.6.2011 after the Gauhati University’s Permanent Affiliation.

The college secured first Govt grant on 19.3.2013 of Rs.3, 57,000/- during the tenure of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the then Honble Minister of Education, Govt of Assam. The college was registered under Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860.

The students of college are doing brilliant results and Shri Debashish Kashyap secured 1st Class 1st Position under Gauhati University in the Final LLB. Examination in 2005-06 and Shri Apurba Kr Nath 1st Class 5th Position in 2006-07 from Our Bongaigaon Law College.

The college has its own two storied RCC. Building, AT Building well-equipped Library along with other facilities. As Bongaigaon is a growing city now Municipality one day the Bongaigaon Law College will certainly be a famous educational institution in this country.
