Yarlagadda Amiapurnamba Government College for Women, Chirala is a prominent educational institution managed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The College was started on August 15, 1966 with affiliation to the Andhra University and later on affiliated to the present Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Guntur District. It was shifted to its own present premises in a centrally located place in 1979. Seed money of one lakh rupees for the starting of the college was donated by a landlord Sri Yarlagadda Ramanath Babu, in the name of his wife Smt. Yarlagadda Annapurnambha and the government has given its concurrence to start the college under Government Management. The College is situated on a 7.5 Acre plot of land in Chirala, Prakasam District and is recognized by the UGC under 2fand 12B in 1972. The College is Government funded and is located in a semi urban area, which has the mission of achieving academic excellence in higher education for Women students.
