St. Joseph’s College of Education for Women had its very humble beginnings on the 1st July in 1946, with just 12 students on rolls. It was the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, meant solely for the training of women graduates and post-graduates of all creeds and communities in general and Christians in particular., The college offering B. Ed. and M. Ed. programme is affiliated to the Acharya Nagarjuna University, Nagarjuna Nagar, Guntur. The college was founded under the dynamic leadership of Rev. Sr. Stanislaus Swamikannu Pillai, who was the first principal. The college has experienced and grown under the principalships of Sr.Anna Maria, Sr. Therisalina, Sr. Pauline Joseph, Sr. Mary Thomas, Sr. Ignatius Loyola and Sr. Theresamma. Presently the college is not being led by a religious sister but by Dr. (Mrs.) D. Vijaya Bharathi, Senior most lecturer. This has happened for the first time in 62 years of history of the college., Thousands of students have passed out from the portals of this college in flying colours and have taken up very responsible positions in the society not only in the field of education but in other fields too, OUR MOTTO, For us teaching is not a profession but a vocation – a call. The college with its motto of Love, Joy and Service has been inculcating in the students, the truth that we must find Love and Joy in the Service that we render to the society, that Service rendered with Love should bring Joy both to the giver and the receiver., OUR OBJECTIVES, To mould the student teachers as women of character with intellectual excellence and moral and spiritual values., To prepare women graduates and post-graduates as efficient and effective teachers through curricular and co-curricular activities., To endow the student teachers with knowledge and values which are productive and effective., To develop the student teachers personality by inculcating good convictions, sound principles and high ethical standards., OUR MISSION, Empowerment of women, specially the poor and the downtrodden through quality education, To prepare teachers with emotional integrity , intellectual ability, high moral standards and social commitment, To mould teachers to prepare future citizens with a global vision, To impart training for the development of the 4 D’s – Discipline, Dedication, Devotion, and Duty mindedness and the coordination of the 3 H’s – Head, Heart and Hand, OUR VISION, To develop the college into a Centre for Excellence in Education, To be a resource centre for schools and colleges of education, To grow into an exemplary seat of higher learning, To strive to render selfless service to the society
