Pre-Sea Modular Course Department is one of the earliest departments of AMET. Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch keeping (STCW) 78 as amended, requires all seafarers to receive familiarization and basic safety training or instruction. The Basic Safety Training course is mandated by ALL flag States for all working seafarers. Basic Safety Training focuses on basic safety skills and knowledge in order to provide a framework for safe working practices, emergency procedures and teamwork within the maritime environment. The five courses below make up the minimum STCW familiarization and basic safety training requirements:

Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting(FPFF)
A trainee successfully completing this course will be enabled to react in a correct manner in the event of an outbreak of fire, to take appropriate measures for the safety of personnel and of the ship, and to use the fire appliances correctly. He will also be able to state and demonstrate that he has acquired knowledge and skills which, in some instances, will enable him to identify and correct defects and thus prevent fire from occurring.

Personal Survival Techniques(PST)
OBJECTIVES
On meeting the minimum standard of competence in personal survival techniques, a trainee will be able to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment.

Eligibility : The course is principally intended as basic training for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship as part of the ships complement with designated safety duties in operation of the ship. All trainees must be certified by a DGS approved doctor, to be in good health.

Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities(PSSR)
OBJECTIVES
On completion of this course the trainee should be able to identify potential areas of emergencies that may arise in the marine environment, whereby he can take effective steps to observe “safe working practice” to eliminate personal injuries and accidents. It will also help the trainee to create a conducive atmosphere designed to boost high-spirited human / social relation ship amongst shipmates.

Elementary First Aid (EFA)
OBJECTIVES
On completion of this course, a trainee will be competent to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency until the arrival of a person with medical first aid skills or the person in charge of medical care on board.

Security Training for Seafarers with designated Security Duties(STSDSD)
OBJECTIVES
Security training for seafarers with designated security duties (STSDSD). Every seafarer who is designated to perform security duties, including anti-piracy and anti-armed-robeery-relted activates, shall be required to demonstrate competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities. The level of knowledge of the subjects shall be sufficient to enable every candidate to perform on board designated security duties, including anti-piracy and anti-armed-robbery-related activates.
