The ever increasing dependence on the Government for help in Educational, Social and Cultural aspects of our community has been slowly but surely eating up the roots of self-help and self-reliance since Independence of India. With a view to helping the Mute Millions of the South East Manbhum, at present Purulia, to have for themselfves a scope of higher education, Manbhum Ananda Ashram Nityanda Trust, an NGO of considerable repute, took up a momentous resolution of doing away with the curse of inferiority complex in the children of the soil and to make them the fit counterparts of those in other developed parts of West Bengal. It thus remembered well the good offices of Late Ramananda Chatterjee in lending his helping hand towards recognition of R. C. Academy, a sister institution, by the Bihar Board of Secondary Education. It was then a task that needed the services of the eminent journalist, philanthropist, patriot and a benefactor of the poor and the downtrodden. The year 1965 marked the centennial of Ramananda Chatterjee. The Trust in humble acknowledgement of the sincere services of Ramananda Babu - a saint, proposed to raise a Degree College and to name it after his centenary. It started collecting and depositing funds. The Resource Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Purulia, (Ex-Officio), met a intervals. No princely donation could be collected. The common man came to the rescue. They contributed their mites and thus built-up the figure which had so long been the proud privilege of the uncommon man. The starting of the college in 1971 - 72 would not have been possible but for the earnest efforts made by Lt. Harihar Mukherjee, the founder Secretary of Manbhum Ananda Ashram Nityanda Trust nand the founder Principal of it. The Trust donated the required land, buildings, furniture, equipmets and the Reserve fund of Rs. 25,000/- only for affiliation in U. E. (Arts & Science) and B.A./B.Sc. (Pass) during 1971 - 72 under the University of Burdwan. Since then the college has crossed several milestones of academic distinctions.

Location
It is 50 Kms. away from and well connected with the two District Head Quarters, Purulia and Bankura. The site of the College is superb. It may very well be called an epitome of Santiniketan. Quite a large number of buses ply from Purulia and Bankura to Puncha/Manbazar each day. Laulara is just one stop ahead of Puncha P.S.
