S.S.M. Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College is a post Secondary level institute dedicated to the cause of serving the needs of rapidly growing high profile textile industries by providing competent human resources to business, industries and community.
It is to motivate women, physically handicapped and weaker sections of the society to participate in the professional activities for enhancement of their socio-economic status.

It is to offer formal and non-formal need based training programmes, counselling, placement and career development services through maintaining a cordial rapport with industries.
It is to foster entreprenuership among the aspring youth and inculcate an astute awareness for environmental protection among all the vital stake holders. It has as its major commitment character and career building for youth by adopting an ideal system of education through a dynamic interaction with the industry, community, government agencies, professional bodies, service organizations, R&D Institutions and alumni, inculating high moral and social values for modulating them as model citizens. The expertise of our philanthrophic management, commited and competent staff team, highly motivated students, excellent infrastructural facilities in an ideal location proclaim our institute to be unique and well qualified for manifesting lofty tenet that the noblest charity is to provide knowledge and skills to the poor and needy.

This college was established in the year 1979 by the members of SS Marichettiyar Trust, Komarapalayam, with a philanthropic vision and a pioneering zeal to imapart quality education. It started with two diploma programmes. With the wishes of great industrialists and educationists of that time, the polytechnic has steadily grown over the years: Community Polytechnic Schmen in 1995; CIICP project in 2000 and successfully running it in the consequent years; AICTE projects like Entrepreneurship cell and Industry Institute Partnership Cell; NBA accreditation for five diploma programmes for three years and Alumni Auditorium built in our college with a seating capacity of 1500 worth of Rs 57,00,000 /- (Lakhs budget).

Our library has been shifted to a new spacious hall with ample reading facility on 11/07/2007. High tech Bar - Coding System has been introduced for Book issue and return.Communication Laboratory sponsored under World Bank Scheme offers effective training for developing skills in communication and Spoken English with latest audio visual equipments and practical approach. The institute operates its own buses for the benefit of the students and staff for their daily conveyance and industrial visits. The buses are run from polytechnic to Bhavani, Erode, Kavindapadi and Salem.
