The Department of Management Studies offers a two year MBA programme directing its all efforts towards the best of managerial education to the students. With the growing demand for high caliber candidates in business administration and entrepreneurship, the department emphasizes on soft skill development and all round personality enhancement.

The highpoint of the MBA programme at Muthayammal Engineering College is the well rounded exposure by conducting seminars, conferences, forums and conventions in different fields like Finance, Human Resource, Marketing, Systems and Research Methodology to equip the students gain from their two year period of study.

Apart from the rigors of a well structured theoretical regime, students also get experience in the latest happenings in the corporate world through the frequent Industry institute interaction. In order to get Industrial exposure, the Department arranges many Industrial Visits to the students.

Evolution Of The Department

MBA Department was started in the academic year of 2005-06.
Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Management have chosen as the core electives.
At present we are in the sixth batch.

The department is headed by a doctorate in Management.
The department possesses two doctorates.
Four faculties are pursuing Ph.D and they are in the submission stage.
The departments possess experienced faculties in all functional areas of Management.

Master of Computer Applications (MCA)

Department of Master of Computer Applications

Department of MCA was established in the year 2001 with a sanctioned intake of 60 for a 3-year PG programme, MCA. The department is equipped with excellent infrastructure and a team of experienced faculty members who have versatile interest and involvement to provide quality education in the area of computer and its applications.

Students & Faculty

At present, the sanctioned intake is 120 in two divisions with 24 experienced faculty members at various capacities such as Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers.

Placement

The department has a very good placement record and our students have got placed in leading companies like INFOSYS, TCS, CTS, Wipro, Hexaware, etc. The overseas alumina is the strength of the department. To facilitate the students to face the on campus and off campus interview, we provide training in the areas of aptitude, Group Discussions, Personality development and technical skill development and Mock interview, etc. High level interaction is periodically held with the industry experts to keep the students abreast of the latest trends in the field of computers and IT.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the three branches started in the year 2000 with an intake of 60 students. In the year 2005 the intake has been increased to 90 and then to 120 in the year 2007.

The post graduate program in VLSI Design with an intake of 18 was started in the year 2007. The department is also a member of Nano Technology Technical Consortium; New Delhi from June 2008. The department is also awarded the center of excellence for research and advanced studies under Anna University, Coimbatore. Cognizant Technology solutions (CTS) has accredited the institution in 2008 to have academic and placement coordination with CTS.

The department has well equipped laboratories such as Electron Devices Lab, Electronic Circuits Lab, Microprocessor and Micro Controller lab, Digital Electronics Lab, Digital Signal Processing / Networks Lab, VLSI Lab, Communication Lab, Electronic System Design / Integrated Circuits Lab are equipped with latest configured systems and work stations. Advanced softwares like ORCAD, MyCAD, Mat Lab etc are available in this department to train the students towards employability skills.

Many Alumni of this department are placed in leading Industrial organizations. Students are highly motivated to present technical papers in various forums. They are guided to carry out innovative projects in their final year.

The Department was established in the year 2000 with an intake of 60 students. The PG Programme in Computer Science and Engineering with an intake of 18 has been started in the year of 2005. Later the intake in UG Programme has been increased to 90 in the year of 2007 and PG Programme has been increased to 36 in 2010. The Department has Modern labs with Hi-end Servers and Operational Nodes with reliable Internet connection.

The Department had signed MOU with BSNL, Accent-e and other reputed organization for academic collaborations. The Students have secured seven university ranks listed by Anna University Chennai. The Department has conducted AICTE sponsored Staff Development Programme on Real Time System in which faculty members from various colleges participated and benefited. Based on the research facilities and activities Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore recognized the department as Center for Collaborative Research.

The Institution has been accredited by Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant Technology Solutions for academic collaboration and placement.

Mechanical Engineering department was established in the year 2004 with the required approval from AICTE New Delhi. Sixty students are admitted every year. This department is headed by a PhD holder and he is having more than 28 years of Teaching Experience.

The Department has well qualified faculty members. Fourteen faculties are currently working in this department with adequate teaching experience. Three faculty members are about to get their doctoral degrees.

The department has well equipped laboratories such as Fluid Machine Lab, Thermal Engineering Lab, Heat and Mass Transfer Lab, Mechatronics Lab, Dynamics Lab, Strength of Materials Lab, Workshop Practice Lab, Machine Shop, CAD Lab, CAM Lab etc. CAD / CAM Labs are equipped with latest configured systems and work stations.

Advanced softwares like Pro-Engg, Auto CAD, Ansys, MathCAD, Mat Lab etc are available in this department to train the students towards employability skills. CAM Lab has both CNC Turning centre and Machining centre.

The Department was started during the academic year 2002-2003. The scope of Electronics and Instrumentation engineers is tremendous. They have wide range of fields where they can seek employment. The Openings are in Electric power generating stations, Refinery Industries, Manufacturing Industries, Infrastructure projects, Computer software, Hardware and Automation, etc. In fact the entire instrumentation systems may be considered being the eyes and ears of the industries.

There are plenty of opportunities for the Electronics and Instrumentation Engineers, have abundance of opportunity in the following companies in and around Tamilnadu and in overseas. Some of the companies are Chettinad cements corporation ltd., TNPL, TCS, CTS, HCL – Automation, L&T – Automation, Madras Cements Limited, Flsmidth, Indian Cements Limited, Siemens, and many.

Faculty

There are 18 well qualified and experienced faculty members, including 2 professors with Ph. D. and 7 Assistant Professors. Five faculty members are pursuing research leading to Ph. D. The faculty members are encouraged to participate in conferences and Faculty Development Programmes. Short Term Training Programmes, Workshops and Seminars are conducted to enhance their knowledge.

During the past three years 10 faculty members were sponsored to attend 27 such programmes. Faculty seminars are frequently organized to share the knowledge for innovative teaching and research. The department also organized one AICTE-ISTE sponsored SDP Programme.
Research and development

Members of faculty are actively involved in research and development. They have published 20 Papers in the referred Journals, National and International conferences during the past three years.

Two National Conferences and Five Student Technical symposiums have been conducted by the department in the past three years.
Teaching and learning process

The faculty formulates the lesson plan well in advance and it is made known to the students at the beginning of the semester. In the class room, for better understanding of the concept, modern teaching aids like Charts, OHP, LCD, CBTs and Video Clippings are used.

In addition to regular curriculum, the students are exposed to the recent developments through guest lectures by experts from Industries and reputed Institutions. Student are motivated to take seminars on topics of their Interest by providing 2 Hours/week in the regular time-table.

For the internal assessment, three terminal tests and model examination are conducted. The performance of the students is evaluated at regular intervals. Students are counseled based on their performance. Remedial classes are also conducted for slow learners
