In today’s era, the world anticipates a nourishing education. St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science for Women is a renowned educational family having the inclination to offer quality education to women. Initially, a letter was sent to the Chief Minister Dr. M.Karunanidhi requesting him to grant permission to commence an Arts and Science College at Hosur in June 2006. The Director of Collegiate Education, Coimbatore sent a letter that a commission including Mr.Ramachandran, J.D, CBE, Principal, Govt. Arts College, Executive Engineer, P.W.D office, CBE, Mr. G.Mohan, Accounts Officer, CBE and Mr. Natraj, Superintendent, J.D office, CBE inspected the college in August 2006.

The Government order (G.O.No 272 dt 31.08.2006) for starting the Arts and Science College was issued and Rev.Sr. Mary Lucy Juliet (Sr. Rocha), a retired professor from the Dept of Botany of Nirmala College, Coimbatore became the principal in August, 2006.

The Application seeking permission to set out five courses- B.SC Computer Science, B.C.A, B.Com, B.Com (CA) and B.Sc Information Science and Management were submitted to the Registrar, Periyar University, Salem on 06.09.2006. Periyar University appointed an inspection committee which visited the college on 28.09.2006.the convener of the Inspection Commission, Dr.G.Anbuganapathi, and Syndicate member, Kandar’s College, Velur inspected the college on 06.10.2006 and submitted the report to the university. The college received the affiliation from Periyar University on 16.10.2006 for four courses- B.Com, B.Com (CA), B.Sc Computer Science and BCA.

The college started functioning with the Holy Mass on 26th October 2006. Seven students were admitted till 30.10.06. The college was formally inaugurated on 30.11.06 by the Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Antony Irudayaraj, Bishop of Dharmapuri. There were totally 24 students for the academic year 2006-2007. Rev. Sr. Mary Lucy Juliet received Qualification Approval as principal from Periyar University, Salem on 22.01.07. The 24 students wrote both the semesters and got 100% result. Again, the college applied for four other courses- B.Sc Bioinformatics and B.Sc Microbiology in March 2007 and B.B.A (CA), B.Sc Biotechnology in September 2007.

The college students were facilitated with the services of canteen from 01.03.07. The other four courses were also approved by the university in June 2007. The NSS camps were held. The site for the college hostel was blessed on 01.05.08. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Bharathiyar University conducted examinations in the college. MSC-RO water purifiers were planted on 21.07.08 and UPS 10KV was installed for computer lab.

The administration applied for B.Com (CA) and B.C.A additional sections to Periyar University. The college hostel was inaugurated by the Most. Rev.Dr. Joseph Irudhayaraj and Very Rev. Mother Celine Nirmala, Superior General, Presentation Congregation, Coimbatore. AIDS awareness program was conducted on behalf of Red Ribbon Club in our college. Placement Cell, NSS, Red Cross, Rotary Club, YRC functioned efficiently. The courses- B.Sc Bioinformatics and B.Sc Microbiology were surrendered in 2009. The courses B.Sc Mathematics and B.A English were commenced in 2010. The post-graduate courses – M.Com and M.Sc Mathematics were in 2011. M.A English and M.Sc Computer Science were commenced in 2013. Rev.Sr.Pauline Mary became the Principal and Secretary of St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science in June 2013.

Foundation for the new building was laid on March 3rd, 2014. On April 15th 2015, Mary’s block was inaugurated and blessed by His Excellency Most Rev Bishop Lawrence Pius, Bishop of Dharmapuri diocese in the presence of very Rev. Mother Celine Nirmala, Superior General, Presentation Congregation, Coimbatore. Rev Sr. Antony Pushpam, Assistant Superior General, Rev. Sr. Camilo, the Educational Co-ordinator, Rev Sr. Loraine, Provincial, Francisco province, Chennai and Rev. Fr. Lourdusamy, Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Church graced the occasion. The workers of the Mary’s block were recognised and appreciated for their tiresome work rendered towards the successful completion of the building. As the college grew with 1625 students, there was a dire need for an auditorium.

The management enforced to fulfill the long time plan of constructing a commodious auditorium. The building of the auditorium was approved by The Superior General, Very Rev Mother Celine Nirmala, Presentation congregation, Coimbatore. On 20th April, 2016, the construction of the auditorium came to perfection with ardent design, equipped and furnished. St. Francesco Auditorium was inaugurated by His Excellency Most Rev Bishop Lawrence Pius, Bishop of Dharmapuri diocese. The noteworthy dignitaries were very Rev. Mother Celine Nirmala, Superior General, Presentation Congregation, Rev Sr. Antony Pushpam, Assistant Superior General, Rev Sr. Loraine, Provincial, dignitaries. Hosur.

The college received affiliation for the courses B.Sc Physics in 2016, B.Sc Chemistry in 2017 and followed by B.Sc Nutrition and Dietetics in 2017. Lab facilities with adequate equipment were provided. Rev Sr. Pauline Mary was transferred to Chennai in the month of June and Sr. Mary Lucy Juliet took the post again of being the Secretary in the month of July. The college is also motivating the students financially, which help them to find the right path in their career growth. Our college students secure number of university ranks every year.
