Annai Velankanni college, Tholyavattam, Kanyakumari District, is owned by the "Friends of kottar" and administered By "Annai Velankanni college of Administrative Society -reg.R. 25/89'', a body registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975. The college is under the religious Jurisdiction of the Latin Catholic Bishop of Kottar. The College started in the Year 1987.

The College is primarily intended to provide educational to latin Catholics of the region in accordance with the rights of the minority community guranteed in the constitution of our country. However, the college is open to all, irrespective of religion, caste or community.

The main objective of the college is to make a significant contribution to education, the improvement of which is a primary need of our country. In this endeavour the college aims to train students according to progressive academic standard and also to prepare them for the role of future leaders dedicated in the spirit of Christ, to the service of their fellowmen, and the welfare of the country, particularly of the rural and underdeveloped areas. Emphasis, therefore, is made in introducing job oriented and other courses relevant to local needs.

In the formation of students the college intends to give great importance to the development pf personal and intellectual integrity and to the application of ethical and humanitarian values.

The college is dedicated to the Mother Of God, the Blessed Virgin mary, under the title "Annai Velankanni" greatly venerated and widely honoured in this part of the country.

The Management of the college is vested in a committee constituted for that purpose by the Friends of Kottar.

Annai Velankanni College, Tholayavattam, Kanyakumari District is established and administrated by the Friends of Kottar Society (Reg. No. 9/1980). It is a Christian Minority Institution under the religious jurisdiction of the Latin Catholic diocese of Kuzhithurai. The College is primarily intended to provide educational opportunities mainly for the social and educational advancement of the Latin Catholics of the region in accordance with the rights of the minority community guaranteed under the Constitution of India(Act.30), without, however,denying educational opportunities to any other people, on the basis of sex, religion, caste, community or region.

The Annai Velankanni College aims to train students to high academic standards so as to prepare them for the role of future leaders imbued with a spirit of dedication to the service of their fellow men and women and the welfare of the country, particularly of the rural and underdeveloped areas. Emphasis, therefore, is laid to conducting job oriented and other courses relevant to micro as well as macro level needs, and as per norms of University.

In the formation of students, the college intends to give importance to the integral development of students comprising of the intellectual, ethical, social and spiritual aspects, by inculcating values pertinent to all aspects of life, in the context of the multicultural, multi religious and multi lingual richness of our nation.

The College is dedicated to "Annai Velankanni", the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God greatly venerated and widely honoured as the Mother of Good Health in this part of the country.
