The MBA Programme (Two year full-time carries the approval by both the Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and the All India Council for Technical Education. While the first year provides a solid footing to the students arming them with the rudiments of business, the second year offers them an opportunity to specialize in a field of their choice from among Marketing, Finance, HR, Production and Systems. GRD Institute of Management offers students a wide range of elective papers to choose from.

Seminars and workshops (on campus and outstation), guest lectures, paper presentations, simulations, case studies, role-plays etc. are made part of the MBA at GRDIM. The Postgraduate (MBA) facilities of the department have been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for running the MBA full-time and part-time programme. The postgraduate facility is called the GRD Institute of Management. The department / GRDIM offers the 3 years undergraduate BBM degree programme, the 2 year MBA full-time and 3 year MBA part-time study programmes.

The GRD Institute of Management focuses on the formative synthesis of educational inputs in developing management professionals and keeps evolving a spectrum of instructional strategies and related activities to make its MBA programme a holistic experience. An important part of this training is to equip persons to function effectively in an environment marked by extreme competition, daunting challenges and rapid changes in diverse aspects. MA (Mass Communication) Programme :

Communication as an art gained recognition as a propaganda tool during World War II. Strategies that were developed subsequently found application in advertising for products and brands. More recently, the Mass Media have been harnessed as tools to channelise positive thinking towards political, social and developmental issues, besides being used as vehicles of education and entertainment.

The 2 year (4 semester) MA (Mass Communication) programme covers the concepts, art and technology and technology and management aspects of Mass Communication in key areas like development, advertising, public relations and journalism. Specific subjects of study include: Introduction to the Theories and Concepts of Communication, Skills of Reporting and Editing, Media History: Laws and Ethics, Advertising, Media Management, Public Relations, Print Production Technologies, Film Studies and Photography, Mass Media Research, Broadcast Journalism, International Communication, Development Communication Theories and Practices, Marketing Communication and Practical Approaches to Market Place, Computer Technology and Contemporary Applications, etc.

The Department has well equipped laboratories with amenities not only to meet the needs of the post graduate course, but also to facilitate research in Molecular Biology, Soil Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Medical Microbiology and Microbial Technology. The Department has already developed its infrastructure with some sophisticated equipments like phase contrast microsopy, fermentor, UV- vis spectrophotometer, PCR thermocycler, ELISA Reader, Gel-doc system, BOD chamber, cold centrifuge DNA sequencer, Untrasonicator, Electroblotter, Minus 800C Deep freezer, Milli-Q-Filtration System, Minicycler TM, HPLC, tc and other essential equipments required for conducting research and practical classes. M.Sc. (Biochemistry) Programme :

The M.Sc. Biochemistry programme was started on 2002. The programme follows the scheme of subjects – theory and practical framed by the College under autonomous status to offer the students a sound application-oriented ground in Biochemistry. Specialized areas like Bioinformatics, Plant and Animal Tissue Culture and Bio Process Engineering are introduced so as to equip students for advanced levels of innovative work. Stress is placed on the development of advanced practical knowledge and skills through extensive laboratory work. Nano Bio Technology and Clinical database management are offered as electives. The course spans four semesters and comprises 13 theory subjects, 3 practical and a project in the final semester.

Under the Department of Biochemistry, instituted in 1995-96, the 3 year B Sc and 2 year M Sc programmes are offered. The research programmes M.Phil and Ph.D commenced from 2006 with the approval of Bharathiar University. The Department endeavors' to give an orientation towards molecular biology and related interfaces of Biochemistry with modern Biotechnology and Genetics. The faculty has been successful in mobilizing highly competitive research and extension project grants from the national funding agencies like DST, DBT, UGC, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, TNSCST etc. A large number of eminent scientists visit the department every year and deliver lectures. Department of Microbiology regularly organizes national level seminars, conferences and workshops to update the students about the recent developments in the field of Microbiology and related sciences.

The Department has well equipped laboratories with amenities not only to meet the needs of the post graduate course, but also to facilitate research in Molecular Biology, Soil Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Medical Microbiology and Microbial Technology. The Department has already developed its infrastructure with some sophisticated equipments like phase contrast microsopy, fermentor, UV- vis spectrophotometer, PCR thermocycler, ELISA Reader, Gel-doc system, BOD chamber, cold centrifuge DNA sequencer, Untrasonicator, Electroblotter, Minus 800C Deep freezer, Milli-Q-Filtration System, Minicycler TM, HPLC, tc and other essential equipments required for conducting research and practical classes. Department is having separate laboratory facility and classrooms for M.Sc., M. Phil and Ph. D. students. Bachelor of Science (BSc Bio Chemistry)

B.Sc. (Biochemistry) Programme :

The B.Sc. Biochemistry programme was started on 1996 The programme follows the scheme of subjects – theory and practical framed by the College under autonomous status to offer the students a sound application-oriented ground in Biochemistry. Specialized areas like Bioinformatics, Plant and Animal Biotechnology and Biostatistics are introduced so as to equip students for advanced levels of innovative work. Stress is placed on the development of advanced practical knowledge and skills through extensive laboratory work. The course spansSix semesters and comprises 23 theory subjects, 6 practical and a mini project in the final semester.

Under the Department of Biochemistry, instituted in 1995-96, the 3 year B Sc and 2 year M Sc programmes are offered. The research programmes M.Phil and Ph.D commenced from 2006 with the approval of Bharathiar University. The Department endeavors' to give an orientation towards molecular biology and related interfaces of Biochemistry with modern Biotechnology and Genetics. The department is well equipped with lab research facilities and the well qualified and motivated faculty are keen to develop research, development, consultancy and extension activities.The Department is actively associated with the Bioinformatics centre of the College which offers the 2 year M Sc and the 1 year full time PG Diploma (University) in Bioinformatics as well as 1 year part time Advanced Diploma (College).

So that science based income generating ventures could be started by them. In this endeavour, the members of the technology transfer projects undertaken by the GRD Trust' s centre for research in social sciences, technology and culture.(CRSTC). Bachelor of Science (BSc Bio-Technology)

The School of Biotechnology is an active department involved in teaching and research in frontier areas of modern biology. The objectives of the school are to conduct high quality basic research and training in cutting edge areas of modern biology, and promote facilities for new and modern techniques in the inter-disciplinary areas of biology. Realising biotechnology as one of the greatest intellectual enterprises of humankind the BSc and MSc Biotechnology degree course was started in the year 1995 and 1999 respectively, to provide the impetus that fulfills this potential of understanding life processes and utilizing them to the advantage of humanity. Even as class room teaching, the well equipped laboratories have their share in the mode of instruction, personal interaction between students and teachers and among students themselves, that form an extremely important and lively medium of generation and transmission of knowledge.

Attaining new heights in biotechnology research, shaping biotechnology into a premier precision tool need lot of infrastructure that GRD School of biotechnology provides the students.

Basic research is essential on all aspects of modern biology including development of the tools to identify, isolate, and manipulate the individual genes that govern the specific characters in plants, animals, and microorganisms. Considering the need for creating a separate framework to strengthen biology and biotechnology, research in the department was started in 2001 and students are enrolled for M.Phil and Ph.D. The creativity of the scientists and the basic curiosity-driven research will be the keys to future success.

The Department also offers the one-year part-time course in Advertising and Marketing Management and Human Resource Management leading to the Post Graduate Diplomas of the college. Add on courses leading to the Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes recognized by the University are also offered along with the UG and PG Degree courses.

The Department functions in its own building with spacious well-furnished classrooms, computer centre, auditorium, AV room and other facilities. The department has networked itself with a wide diversity of resource centres, which could provide inputs of vital importance to the Commerce and International business curriculum. MIB Programme :

The economic liberalization and privatization, opening up of markets, lowering of trade barriers and globalization of business are all emerging realities gaining momentum and having far reaching impact on the Indian economy.

In this context, to size up market options and to magnify avenues in the vast global market calls for marketing acumen, exceptional managerial skills and caliber in business decision-making. The new paradigm calls for infusion of soft skills and techno commercial capabilities in students and this has provided the rationale for the new 2 year Master of International Business (MIB) curriculum.

The curriculum follows an evolutionary pattern. The course content in the initial stages deals with the fundamentals of foreign trade and the basic concepts of major management disciplines. The subsequent course contents give enough scope for students to have a tryst with the practical and technical aspects of International Marketing, International Trade, Foreign Exchange, Logistics Management, Exports, Imports, Strategic Management, Global Financial Management, International Business Relations, Foreign Trade Legislations, Brand Management, Merchandising, Research, etc.

Value Addition:

Seminars, Guest lectures, field and industrial visits and other interactions serve to explore areas of specialized expertise, and expose the students to the real world professional problems, challenges and work environment. Many of the programmes take the form of workshops, seminars and interactions with the on-the-job professionals both locally and at places like Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Chennai etc. Students are encouraged to take up mini projects and industrial training in industries in and around India and abroad.

Students are motivated and provided opportunities to become computer and internet conversant, and to appreciate the potentials of the Informatics and Business/Commerce Interface as manifested by IT applications in e-commerce, IT enabled services, logistics, etc.

Placements:

Considerable attention and effort are devoted to secure placements for the students through campus interviews as well as to arrange recruitment opportunities at major metropolitan centres. Cent percent placement is achieved. A lot of students are working outside India.

SCIB has produced around 20 M.Phil(FT) scholars and 3 Ph.D. scholars and currently five Ph.D. scholars are enrolled.
