The College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is a constituent college of newly formed "Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner. The College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bikaner started functioning on 16 August 1954. Based on the pattern of land-grant system, the University proposes to bring about more efficient and increased agricultural production including Animal Husbandry sector through a coordinated system of veterinary education, research and extension education. The University is expected to play a very vital role in the development of Animal husbandry, Veterinary science and medicinal aspects and in improving the general economic conditions of the farmers of the state.
The College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bikaner started functioning on 16 August 1954. The premises of the college are spread over an area of 200 hectares of land, situated in the earstwhile Ganga Avenue, near Lalgarh Palace. The college possesses well equipped laboratories adequate number of class rooms, requisite number of hostels, stores, housing for poultry and livestock, workshop, auditorium, NCC wing, guest house, faculty house, bank, horizontaly spread departments, clinical facilities, library, computer lab,canteen and internet centre.There is a well-equipped dissection hall, a maceration room, an incinerator, a postmortem facility, riding ring and a museum.
Location and Geo Climate : The historic city of Bikaner , founded 500 years ago, is situated in north western part of Rajasthan state on the border of the Thar desert . The average annual rain fall is between 150- 300 mm with most of the precipitation occurring between July-August. Due to its location in Great Thar desert, it has an extreme climate. During summer, the nights are generally cool but the day temperature may be as high as 48 degrees Celsius. The sand storms are frequent.
