Established in 1989 as Priyadarshini Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jalda, under Raghunathpalli Educational Society of south Rourkela. It is situated in a tribal village of Lathikata Block under Sundergarh district. It was established to impart education among the tribal girls of this locality.

Located on a sprawling 9.99 area campus, in an area with a predominantly tribal population Priyadarshini Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jalda is a premiere women's educational institution in South Rourkela under Sambalpur University. It would seem truly ironical that at the time of inception in 1985, PMM Jalda started on the premises of Jalda Boy's High School with only 32 students on its roll. With that humble beginning the institution has taken a few strides over the last twenty five years. Initially the College started with only 32 students in +2 Arts but today its roll strength has crossed 890. Truly it is said adversity depress the average man but one who whips adversity to his advantage becomes great. Priyadarshini whipped adversity to become what it is destined to be. The new college building was constructed in 1985 near Balijudi Church. Since then it has solidly anchored itself as an institution that helps in building personality and character that play a vital role in the ultimate analysis. Guided by a committed and determined group of faculty members and staff, our students equip themselves to encounter the varied experiences of the life with an active and contemplative mind. Thus, this institution has been rendering yeoman's service in the field of higher education to the socially and economically backward women of this locality for the last two and half decades.

This citadel of learning has carved out for itself an enviable place among other colleges of Rourkela. It prides itself on its glorious record of decades of agitation free students involvement in academic, cultural and sport activities.
