Located in Our institute was temporarily housed at Samarth Junior College in the town of Ramtek with the co-operation of Sri Samarth Sikshan Mandal management before shifting to the current own premises. The campus sprawling over 19.8 hectares (50 acres) is about 3 KM from Ramtek town on Ramtek-Mouda road. Well laid out roads with high grown trees, wide lawns and beautiful rose gardens were developed to enhance the aesthetic charm of the campus. In persuance with the policies of the Government of India to start Engineering colleges in emerging technologies in rural areas, the Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science (K.I.T.S) was established at Ramtek during the academic year 1985-86. The Institute is named after the great poet Kavikulguru Kalidas. Our beloved former Prime Minister Hon. Sri. P. V. Narsimha Rao, the then M.P. from the Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency was instrumental in setting up the Engineering College here. The gist of Lord Krishna's intensive teaching on self-Sraddhavan Labhate Jnanam forms the guiding spirit and motto of the Institute. K.I.T.S, Ramtek is affiliated to the R.T.M. Nagpur University and is being developed as per the norms of the All India Council of Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E), Government of India, About Ramtek, Ramtek is one of the important pilgrim centres and tourist attractions of Maharashtra State. It has both mythological and historic importance. It is about 45 kms from Nagpur and is well connected by road and rail. It is a serene town abounding in scenic beauty and is free from noise and air pollution. Tourists from all over India come to visit Ramtek. It is hallowed by the feet of Lord Rama when he visited the ashram of the great sage Agastya on the hill nearby. It is at this holy place that Lord Rama took a vow to destroy the demons. Hence the place came to be known as Ramgiri or Ramtek., During the reign of Vakataka King in Vidarbha around 400 A.D the great poet Kalidasa visited Ramtek on a royal mission. Captivated by the idyllic atmosphere in and around Ramgiri, he gave expression to his famous epic Meghdootam. This fact is suitably commemorated by the Maharashtra State Government by erecting a monument on the hill where Kalidasa sat and concieved the great epic. Ramtek is basically a taposthala from time immemorial where great souls engaged themselves in the quest of enlightenment. The greatest of Buddhist philosophers and Indian alchemists Acharya Nagarjuna lived here. Chakradharaswamy of Mahanobhava Panth lived and meditated here about 600 years back. A famous Jain Temple is also erected at Ramtek. A natural waterfall at Totladoh and an artificial lake at Khindsi are the chief tourist attractions around Ramtek. Industrial estates are also setup in and around Ramtek which are attracting leading organisations to setup their industries here. DCL Polysters, Pennar Aluminium, Suryalaxmi Group and Visakha Industries have already commenced production. Asia's biggest industrial estate is being setup at Butibori which is 80 km away and has a vast potential to offer ready employment opportunities..
