Founded in 1937, Kamla Raja Girls Govt. Post - Graduate College, Gwalior, is a pioneer and premier institution for women in higher education in this part of country. It was elevated to the post - graduate level in 1970 and autonomous status was conferred on it in 1995. Standing with majestic grace in the heart of the city, the college is housed in one of the palaces of the erstwhile Scindia dynasty. It has an impressive historic main building alternated by lush green lawns, tall trees and blocks of various faculties constructed lately. It is a unique college of old and new architecture as well as picturesque natural beauty spread over a vast campus of 53714.60 sq. m. National Assessment & Accreditation council, Banglore (NAAC) has accredited this college as B level (equivalent to previous grade) among autonomous colleges. Proposal for upgrading the institution as Deemed University is under consideration of the UGC.The college provides a great diversity in programme options. The undergraduate and post graduate teaching offer in 26 and 23 subjects respectively in Arts, Science, Commerce and Home Science faculties -- a range which is possibly greatest in the entire Madhya Pradesh. The faculty is experienced and well qualified as 85 teachers out of 101 hold Ph. D. degree.
The College makes a continuous internal assessment of its students through written tests, seminars and symposia under the Autonomous Examination Scheme, followed by the final examination.
The College has a rich library with 88852 books in the Central and Departmental libraries. The central library has a group Reading Room well equipped with Research Journals, Magazines and Newspapers where students and research scholars may sit and read. The library is equipped with a photocopier so that students and scholars may get extracts of books and journals at a nominal payment.
The College has three well equipped hostels – Ganga, Kaveri and Narmada – accommodating 350 girls.There are two units of NSS and one of NCC and the student has the choice of enrolling herself in either of the programmes.
The college facilitates students with provisions for Canteen, Cycle Stand, Library with Internet and Photocopier, public utilities including toilets, water huts equipped with aqua - guard and water coolers. The cultural programme organized on annual functions are a class of their own and are televised and transmitted by the Bhopal Door-darshan.The college topped in receiving grants from the UGC during X Five Year Plan in the entire Gwalior - Chambal Division. The UGC team of experts which visited our institution on Sept. 2007 to review the working of autonomy was pleased to recommend the extension of our autonomous status till 2012-2013.
Our Mission
Our objective is to make the girls emerge as empowered women, aware and worthy of facing the challenges of the fast changing modern World. We cope with in accomplishing this mission by providing a congenial and proactive atmosphere to them. Since it is a Women's College, it has set the goal of making the women aware of feminity by giving them knowledge of domesticity and early childhood care through courses in Home Science faculty. Teaching of Science makes them rational in thought, analytical in approach and capable of making sound judgments in life. Subjects like Literature, Music, and Fine Arts inculcate in them a sense of aesthetic refinement and compassion to add to the grace of feminine sensibility. Social Sciences give them vision of life and instruct them in the Art of Living.
