Govt. Model Science College, a premier institute of science teaching and research, has a long and glorious history of 100 years. Prior to its formal establishment in 1961, it was known as Victoria College, which bifurcated into two centers of education a science college and an arts and commerce college. The college is situated in an urban locale, spreads over an area of about thirty-two acres on Gwalior Jhansi road. Its magnificent campus endows it with a place of pride among renowned institutes. The college is affliated to Jiwaji University, Gwalior.Government Model Science College, Gwalior (M.P.) - 474 009 was established during 7th July 1961. It is a premier institute of science teaching and research has a long and glorious history of 100 years. Prior to its formal establishment in 1961, it was known as Victoria College, which bifurcated into two centers of education - a Science college and an Arts and Commerce College. The Science College, situated in an urban locale, spreads over an area of thirty-two acres. This campus endows with a place of pride among renowned institutes. It is a government funded institution. Taking cognizance of the institute's great strides in the sphere of education the Govt. of M.P. conferred on it the status of a Model College in the year 1985. Since then the college has grown into a multi-faceted institute of science teaching and research. The college had the status of an autonomous college for a long period. Autonomy was conferred on the institute on 2nd February 1988 but it was withdrawn in the year 2002.With regard to infrastructure there are sufficient numbers of classrooms and laboratories. These facilities are used to the maximum by running vocational and job oriented courses under self financing schemes. The construction work of an administrative block, a seminar hall and an indoor badminton court is in progress. During IX plan, the college was sanctioned an amount of Rs.26,45,000/- for development of undergraduate and postgraduate facilities, teacher fellowship, research projects and seminars. The central library is having more than 60 thousand books. The campus is having a hostel for boys which requires a measure renovation, a botanical garden, central computer facility, big playground etc. Health center, guesthouse are required to be provided. There is a canteen building which is to function. They are following annual system of Examinations for all courses except for M.Sc. Computer Science which is having semester system. Linkage and collaboration with other institution exists. The college has generated resources of Rs.31.73 lakhs through self financing courses and 9.17 lakhs through Janbhagidari during last year.
