The Central Tuber Crops Research Institute CTCRI a constituent Institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research ICAR is the only research organization in the World dedicated solely to the research on tropical tuber crops. The Institute established in 1963 with its Headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram = Trivandrum, Kerala has grown over the years into a premier research organization of international repute.
The Central Tuber Crops Research Institute CTCRI a constituent Institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research ICAR is the only research organization in the World dedicated solely to the research on tropical tuber crops. The Institute established in 1963 with its Headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram = Trivandrum, Kerala has grown over the years into a premier research organization of international repute. The Headquarters of CTCRI is located at Sreekariyam 12 km away from Airport and 10 km from Railway Station/and Bus Terminal of Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala State and has an area of 48.19 ha. The Institute has a Regional Centre at Bhubaneswar, Orissa established in 1976 with an area of 20 ha located 8 km from Airport and 7 km from Railway Station; this cater to the needs of Eastern India. There has been a phenomenal increase in the budget and manpower over the years and the Institute's outlay for the XI Plan is Rs.1774 lakhs Plan and Rs. 5667.56 lakhs Non-Plan. The staff strength during XI Plan is 195 Scientific 50, Technical 47, Administrative 31 and Supporting 67. The All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Tuber Crops AICRP was started at CTCRI in 1968, as a vehicle for the testing and popularisation of tuber crop technologies and this project has developed location specific recommendations; 17 centres located in 12 State Agricultural Universities 4 ICAR institutes and 1 Central Agricultural University. This Project has a staff strength of 53 which includes 23 Scientists and operates a budget of Rs.772.12 lakhs during the XI Plan.

Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram's infrastructure are well furnished with modern facilities.
CTCRI Library provides necessary information support for Institute research programs. It houses about 17400 volumes, a current subscription of 42 journals a collection of over 3500 reprints (hard copy) and 2000 e reprints, mainly on tuber crops, theses submitted to various Universities, annual reports and other technical publications from various national and international agricultural institutions and organizations.

The main collection is on agriculture and allied areas with special stress on tuber crops. Major subjects covered include Agriculture, Agricultural extension, Computer Science, Field Crops, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Tissue culture, Soils and fertilizers, Plant physiology, Plant pathology, Entomology, Pest control, Crop production, Biotechnology and crop utilization etc. Back volumes of major CAB Abstracts are available from the starting volume onwards
MEMBERSHIP
Scientific, Technical and Administrative staffs of the Institute are eligible for membership and book loan facilities. Reading and reference facilities are extended to other ICAR Scientists. Scientists, researchers and teachers from University Departments and Colleges can consult CTCRI Library by providing a letter of introduction from the concerned Institution, approved by the Director of CTCRI. ARIS CELL has established with an area of 1400Sqft consisting of 17 state of the art workstations with centralized facilities for printing scanning etc. ARIS cell also houses a centralized server room and a power room supplemented with a 10KVA online UPS and supported with centralized generator facility.
ARIS Cell has established a full fledged Local Area Network connecting the various Divisions of CTCRI. The entire network is supported by state of the art equipments such as Routers, Firewalls, switches, and structured cabling and the network is powered by Windows 2008 operating system as its backbone and powerful machines as its nodes. The network consists of Windows 2008 server, Storage Server, Internet Proxy server, 178 computers, 18 Laser Printers, 16 Inkjet printers, 6 Scanners, DTP and multimedia workstations. Legal Licensed versions of popular software packages are installed for various types of applications.
Our ARIS Cell became one of the nodal point of National Knowledge Network of India (NKN) for effective sharing of scientific resources. A high speed 1Gbps fiber optic connectivity was established for internet communication and can be accessed through the Local Area Network. A 2mbps broadband connectivity from BSNL is also established to supplement/backup the internet bandwidth. CTCRI has setup a home page on the Internet. This can be accessed at http://www.ctcri.org which provides a comprehensive picture about the various activities of the Institute.
