About Indian Institute of Information Technology IIIT, Dharwad

The Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad (IIIT-DWD), Karnataka is an Autonomous Institute set up by Government of India (MHRD), Government of Karnataka and Industry Partners (represented by M/s Keonics) as a not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) Society. This is intended to be a world-class Information Technology Institute with the objective of developing professional expertise and to address the increasing skill challenges of the Indian IT industry. It will initially offer UG programs and later extend to PG, Doctoral and post-doctoral programs in IT and ITeS with specialisation in IT application to domain areas.

The IIIT-Dharwad is part of the Union government's proposal to set up 20 new IIITs in different parts of the country and the partners in the project would be the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India , state governments and industry. The IIIT-DWD is funded by Government of India (50%), Government of Karnataka (35%) and Industry Partners (15%). The institute will be run by the Board of Governors of The IIIT Society. The Board of Governors would include representatives of MHRD, GoK and Industry Partners; eminent people from academia, industry and civil society.

The Campus

The academic session has commenced in a temporary campus at IT Park , Hubballi , Dharwad District, Karnataka from the academic year 2015-16 with 4 years B.Tech undergraduate programmes in CSE and ECE courses with 30 students in each programme, with IIITB as its mentor. The IIIT-DWD will be coming up on a campus of 61.06 acres of land at Tadasinakoppa near Dharwad. The boundary wall construction is in progress. Master plan is in place. It is planned to have Technical blocks, Administrative block, Library civic amenities, parks, play grounds, open air auditoriums and Guest House. As an amenity to students and staff, seperate hostel for boys and girls, and staff quarters are planned. The entire activity is planned to be completed in a phased manner.

Hostel Facilities

All Girls students will be provided Hostel accommodation.Limited Hostel Facility is available for boys.However, the Institute will aid in getting accommodation,in case necessary.

Computers have been procured and some labs are set up and are functioning at the temporary campus, IT Park. Since few of the lab classes cannot be conducted in the above said premises, the laboratories in the BVB Engineering College , Hubballi are being utilized for this purpose.

Desk Top Computers have been procured and the Computing Laboratory has been made functional at the IT Park with wired Internet Connectivity as well as WiFi facility.

Networking

The IT Park Campus has wired connectivity and also WiFi Routers have been installed for the benefit of students and faculty with a bandwidth of 2 Mbps (1:1) to start with.

Library

First Year Books have been procured and the Library facility for students has been made available. Books have been issued to all the students. Very soon Digital Library also would be made functional with E Books and Journals/Magazines.
