Postgraduate programme in Horticulture was started in the Department / Division of Horticulture under the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore in the early part of 1970’s to begin with offering only M.Sc Agri. in Horticulture. Consequent to the production of B.Sc (Hort) graduates, M.Sc (Hort) degree program in various disciplines like Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture and Postharvest Technology was started during 1978-79 and these programmes were further strengthened under UNDP in close collaboration with IIHR, Hessarghatta. Under the program one Professor and six Associate Professors were sanctioned and continued on permanent basis. Under the program the department was strengthened by procuring State-of-the art equipments. Realising the importance of Horticulture in the State of Karnataka a separate Horticulture University was established by an Act of Karnataka Government from 2009. Consequently, entire postgraduate programme was transferred to Horticultural University from Agricultural Universities. Accordingly the UHS started PG programmes in Horticulture from the academic year 2010-11 by taking over from UAS Bangalore at GKVK campus. Now the PG centre has been redesignated as College of Horticulture, Bengaluru.
