Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) - Fisheries Science is concerned with the catching, conservation , managing, marketing and processing of fish and is treated as one of the most important areas in the field of science .This field is an interdisciplinary one and needs to collect information from different fields like Oceanography, Management ,Economics , Ecology and biology,Fisheries science is generally a 4-year course typically taught in a university setting, and can be the focus of an undergraduate, postgraduate or Ph.D. program. Bachelor level fisheries courses (B.F.Sc) were started by the state agricultural universities to make available the much needed technically competent personnel for teaching, research and development and transfer of technology in the field of fisheries science.

The Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc), is a four year undergraduate fisheries science course in India. The study program is designed to provide technical qualification, sufficient skills to manage fisheries profession. The study preparing candidates to run their own fish farming farm. The study develop the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strength and weakness of alternative solution, conclusion and also approaches to problems.

The study is focused on theoretical and practical aspects of academic discipline Like : Principles of aquaculture, Taxonomy of Finfish / Shellfish, Fundamentals of Microbiology, Freshwater Aquaculture, Anatomy of Finfish and Shellfish, Culture of Fish Food Organism, Food Chemistry & Fish in Nutrition, Canning & Fish Packing, Fisheries Administration & Legislation, Diseases & Management, Marine Fisheries, Aquatic Ecology & Biodiversity, Fish Microbiology and Quality Assurance.

Eligibility

The candidates should have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) Education or an Equivalent Examination, for Science stream and additional subjects like, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, minimum 50% marks are eligible for pursuing in this program.

Entrance Examination

In India it is mandatory to give an additional entrance exam for pursuing in Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) and candidate have to clear entrance examination like,All India Level Common Entrance Test conducted by, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi for getting admission in various Central Institute of Fisheries in Country.

Further Studies

If candidates have desire to gain more knowledge to accelerate their profession and skills can pursu Master of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc), for specialisation and also do research oriented work in respective field.

Bachelor’s Degree holder have an excellent career opportunities in Fisheries profession and Government Sector like, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nationalized Bank. After the successful completion of course one can recognized as Pisciculturist and work as, Fish Trader, Fish Breeder, Farm Manager, Fisheries Inspector, Aqua Culturist, Feed Mill Manager, Fish Export Inspector, Export Manager, Fisheries Extension Officer, etc.
