SARUPATHAR COLLEGE is the only provincialised college under Dhansiri Sub- Division of Golaghat District bordering Nagaland and Karbi Anglong District. Being established in 1970 with Mr. Muhi Kanta Tamuli as its founder Principal, the College may now rightly claim to have completed 37 years of its existence well fulfilling the aspirations of the students of the vast rural backward area to receive the benefit of higher education. The college was brought under deficit system of Grant-in-Aid by the Government in 1981 and ultimately declared provincialised along with other same category college of Assam in December, 2005. The College got the permanent affiliation of Dibrugarh University upto Degree level in 1994- 1995. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council ( NAAC ) awarded to the college with "B" Grade. The college has recently been facilitated with a huge auditorium out of the Buniyad Scheme Fund sanctioned by the Assam Govt. for the extension of the Administrative Building.
In the beginning the college had only Arts Stream offering Pre-Degree and Under- Graduate Courses, but later on the Commerce Stream was added and also a Vocational Certificate Course for Doll Making with a view to give to empowerment to women to some extent. The Arts Stream of the college was brought under the Deficit Grant-in-Aid system of the Govt. of Assam in 1981. But the Commerce Stream which started functioning from the 1985 has not yet been brought under the Deficit-Grant-in-Aid System of the Government. On the other hand the Certificate Course in Making of Dolls and Allied Items is a Self-Financing one which was introduced in 2003. At present, there are 21 (twenty one) teaching member including the Principal and 15)fifteen) temporary teacher in the college. There are also 7(seven) permanent Non-Teaching staff including the Librarian and 4(four) other temporary. The college was recognized by the UGC under its 2(f) Section in August, 1983 and under 12 (b) Section in March, 1997. In brief, it may be said that Sarupathar College has completed 38 years in serving the human society and furthering the cause of civilization and culture limited but sincere capacity. It can never be denied that this colleges produced sufficient human resources to sustain a vast chunk of states populace which is bounded by the Naga Hills , the Karbi Hills, the Nambar Reserve Forest and the Dhansiri River on four sides.
AIMS & OBJECTS :
I. To impart higher education both in Arts & Commerce , and also higher secondary level of education in Arts and Commerce.
II. To impart value based education particularly for Commerce and Trade.
III. To develop an all round personality of the students by encouraging and creating an atmosphere to make themselves fit for games and sports, music, arts and culture, politics and commerce and be loyal and social
