During the early 40s there was a long felt need for a full-fledged academic institution at the district head quarters of West Godavari District, A.P. To fulfil this dream, the then chairman of municipal council, Eluru, Late Rao Saheb Damaraju Venkata Rao went on a fund raising campaign and deposited Rs 2 lakh and 17 thousand in the municipal treasury for starting the college. Following this SIR C.R. R. MUNCIPAL COLLEGE came into being on 4th July 1945. It was named after SIR C.R. Reddy, a distinguished scholar and the then Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University. The college came to be treated as an institution under private management by the government since 1947, and the word municipal was dropped from its name. Since then the institute has been growing at a steady pace. A number of institutions have also came up under the umbrella of the same management. SIR C.R. Reddy Institutions, with a reputation for quality education and academic excellence, has carved a niche for themselves in the academic field of coastal Andhra Pradesh. The management consists of a team of eminent individuals and professionals from all over the state. An executive body elected by the general body from time to time carries out the general administration of the institutions.
The very purpose of education is not merely to change the opinions of men but to transform their lives, we must make clean of heart within us. Theoretical knowledge of the subjects alone will not contribute for the advancement of mankind. The different subjects are great achievements of man and we should take pride not in one special production but in all, for all are fellow contributors treading our way to the advancement. The practical advancements in science and technology are so spectacular that we firmly believe that the achievements of the technocrats will certainly bring happiness for the people who live in misery and waver with uncertainty in this world. At this juncture we are in dire need of a renewal of human nature, a creative transformation that will lift us out of fear and suffering, out of despondency and helplessness, which will set us to work bravely for the new world. New men are needed for the new India. A Scientific view of the existing world reveals to us a central mystery, which is universal fraternity among the technocrat community in this K- Society. The attitude of this K- Society towards to the society should be one of humility and observation. In the pursuit of knowledge, students with their austerity and detachment can rise above in this unquiet modern world which science and technology have compressed into a single neighborhood. An educational institution is a fellowship, devout in its admiration of what has been achieved in the past, yet believing in the richness of the future which lies before us all, a fellowship which transcends all barriers of race, religion, class, creed and region yet honors the artistic, intellectual traditions, humanity, ethical values and skill sets of a variety of peoples. It is high time we need to rededicate to the mission of making our nation a developed one with all the intellect we have accumulated over the years. I am glad to say that the college website is resourceful in numerous ways. Students and visitors surf through the portal derives lot of benefit and it navigates them to unique educational portals also.
The Central Library is the significant feature of the college. Total built up area of 4,454 square meters at the cost of Rs 4.8 Crores with all modern facilities. Apart from conventional library facilities, digital library, discussion rooms, internet browsing centre and video conferencing hall with 120 seating capacity are included. At present the college library has about 37,309 volumes with 12,636 titles, and subscribes 267 e-Journals, 73 Journals & 28 Magazines. It is being developed to meet the needs of the post graduate and doctoral candidates.
The library has over 3449 volumes and 2499 titles in the reference section that supports the activities of the research and development wing of the college. Digital Library with media server 30 systems, Internet facility is available in the library with 70 systems, e-class room with 31 systems. The college library is fully automated. The software was developed by the students of this college. The main features of the library software are Bar code based circulation system; web based public on line catalogue, Provision for serials control and stock verification etc. Bio-metric system is provided for monitoring the Library Operations
