Sambhota Tibetan School Pokhriabong is situated on an elongated hill in a remote village called Sukia Porkria– about 18 kilometers away from Darjeeling town, West Bengal, India. This school was started on 15th April, 1981 with 50 children. It was started by the Tibetan community of the area. The then settlement officer coordinated the expansion and development work of the school. Major infrastructure development started after it was taken over by the Department of Education, CTA, Dharamsala. Hostel buildings were constructed, in addition to the main school building, to give boarding facility to the children of Tibetans residing near Indo-Nepalese border. This has resulted in steady increase in the number of students in the school. It is a primary school up to the level of class V. On completion of class V, the children are admitted in nearby Central School for Tibetans in Darjeeling and Kalimpong, depending on the vacancy, to continue their remaining school education.
