(13) (i) Rub a small quantity of the given food in the centre of a brown paper.
(ii) Hold this paper in front of a source of light and look through it.
(iii) If the food is left a bright greasy patch on paper, then fat is present in the food.
(14) The presence of protein in a given food stuff can be tested as follows:
(i) Take 2 ml of the given food stuff solution in a test tube.
(ii) Add a little of a dilute sodium hydro-oxide solution till the mixture clears.
(iii) Add 2/3 drops of copper sulphate solution and shake the test tube.
(iv) If the paper appear violet color, thein it is present with protein.
(15) Presence of Starch in a food pointed below:
(i) Take a small quantity of a food to be tasted.
(ii) Add 2/3 drops of dilute iodine solution to the food with a dropper.
(iii) If a blue black color is produced then starch is presence in the given food.
(16) A blue black color appears on the cut surface of potato.
The appearance of the blue black color shows that, potato contain starch.
(17) Take a small quantity of flour in a test tube and shake it with a little of water.
Add 2/3 drops of dilute iodine solution to the mixture of flour and water. A blue – black color appears in the test tube. This shows that starch is present in flour.
(18) Take some groundnut kernels and place them on a brown paper spread on a table. Crush the ground nut kernels carefully by using a small hammer. Remove the crushed ground nut kernels from the paper and hold the paper towards light.
The number of bright, greasy spots are seen on the paper. The formation of greasy translucent spots on paper shows the presence of fat in groundnut kernels.
(19) The deficiency of Iron in the diet leads to a disease called Anaemia.
Symptoms: The person looks pale, feels very weak, tires easily and loses weight. His nails also turn white.
(20) A growing Children needs more. This is because, without these children will face fatal disease. Ex. Kwashiorkar.
(21) The balanced diet of a people doing hard physical work is different from another man doing normal work . A man doing hard physical work needs more carbohydrates in his diet than another man doing normal work. This is because he needs more energy for doing hard physical work and this extra energy is supplied by including more of carbohydrate rich foods in his diet.
(22) A laborer needs more energy than normal due to he needs more energy for doing hard physical work and this extra energy is supplied by including more of carbohydrate rich foods in his diet.
(23) Microwaving, Frying are the two pre cooking practices which lead to the loss of nutrient in the food.
(24) This is because, it removes the water soluble vitamins and some minerals from them.
(25) The washing of fruits and vegetables after they have been peeled and cut, removes the water soluble vitamins and some minerals from them.
(26) The thick peels should not be removed from fruits and vegetables because they contain with vitamins and minerals.
(27) We should include some fresh fruits and raw vegetables in our diet to get the required Vitamin C.
(28) Then some of the protein as well as considerable amounts of minerals present in food are lost.
(29) The deficiency are bleeding from the gums, loosening of teeth and wounds do not heal easily.
(30) The deficiency of Vitamin D causes rickets in children.
Symptoms: Bent legs as well as Pigeon type chest.

The deficiency of Vitamin A in the diet causes a disease known as nigh blindness.

Symptoms:
Person’s muscle become very weak as well as he has very little energy to do work.

Symptoms:
(i) Child hair changes color and become red.
(ii) The child growth will slow.
(iii) The child has decreased resistance to infection.
(iv) The child become weak and irritable.
(42) Marasmus disease caused by the deficiency of proteins as well as carbohydrates in the diet of small children.
Symptoms:
The child becomes very lean and thin
The ribs of child look very prominent.
The child cannot even move due to lack of energy.
The child’s weight becomes very low for his age.
