The Directorate of Education (DoE), Government of Delhi, is responsible for the management of education in the city. The DoE has established the edudel – Delhi Board to provide quality education to the students of Delhi. It is a school education board that functions under the guidelines of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Delhi Board

The edudel – Delhi Board was established in 1956 under the Delhi School Education Act. Initially, it was known as the Board of Secondary Education, Delhi (BSED). Later, in 1969, it was renamed as the Delhi Board of Secondary Education (DBSE). In 1975, it was further renamed as the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi (CBSE Delhi). Finally, in 2011, it was renamed as the edudel – Delhi Board.

Objectives of edudel – Delhi Board

The primary objective of edudel – Delhi Board is to provide quality education to the students of Delhi. Some of the other objectives of the board are:

  • To ensure that the education system in Delhi is in line with the national education policy.
  • To develop a curriculum and syllabus that is relevant to the needs of the students in Delhi.
  • To promote research and development in the field of education.
  • To provide training and development opportunities to teachers and other educational professionals.
  • To conduct examinations and assessments in a fair and transparent manner.
