CBSE, the Central Board of Secondary Education, operates as a national-level educational board under the administration of the Union Government of India. It oversees a vast network of schools, totaling around 19,316 establishments across India, along with an additional 211 schools in 25 foreign countries that are affiliated with CBSE. The board mandates affiliated schools to adhere to the curriculum prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Headquartered in New Delhi, CBSE holds a prominent position in the Indian education system.
Delving into its historical roots, the earliest educational board in the country was the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education, established in 1921. Initially operating under the jurisdiction of Rajputana, Central India, and Gwalior, it underwent several transformations. In 1929, it evolved into the joint Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Rajputana. However, in 1952, it underwent a significant transition and was reconstituted as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), marking a pivotal moment in the history of Indian education.
