The Crusade to CANcel CANcer |

The School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad organised as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month (1-31 October), a Lecture on ‘The Crusade to CANcel CANcer’ by Dr. P. Satya Dattatreya, MD,DM,DNB; Director & Chief of Medical Oncology Services, Renova Soumya Cancer Centre on 18th October, 2022.

In the lecture attended by students, faculty, officials, retired staff; Dr Dattatreya spoke about the history, causes, existing treatments, precautions to be taken for Cancer. He gave an account of the positive attitude to be followed by the physicians towards treating patients with cancer. Dr. Dattatreya said, “The most common cancer treatments are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation”. “Cancer is a family of diseases. There are over a hundred different cancer types. Some types are curable, and indeed are being cured”, he added.

Dr. Palanki Satya Dattatreya is a Medical Oncologist at Hyderabad. In the past, he has worked at Indo-American Cancer Institute and Research Center, Hyderabad where he worked as a consulting medical oncologist and completed 3 years of residency at Gujarat Cancer Institute and Research Center. He received his MD in pediatrics from N.H.L. Municipal Medical College and Sheth K.M. School of Post-Graduate Medicine and Research, Ahmedabad and then did his DM at The Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, Ahmedabad. His main areas of clinical interest include haematological malignancies, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, GI tract malignancies, GU tract malignancies (ovarian cancer in particular), malignant brain tumors, bone and soft tissue sarcomas and all paediatric oncology cases.

Prof. B.J. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad presided.

Prof. Geeta K. Vemuganti, Dean, School of Medical Sciences coordinated the event.
