Dr. V.J. Varghese joined KCHR as a ‘Scholar-in-Residence’ |

Dr. V.J. Varghese, Associate Professor in the Department of History, University of Hyderabad, has joined Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) as a Scholar-in-Residence. The invitation from KCHR has been in view of his interest in and contribution to the area of modern history of Kerala. Dr. Varghese will be at KCHR for three months starting from 14 June 2022.

During the course of this Residence fellowship, Dr. Varghese will be organizing a research workshop for graduate students and giving two public lectures at KCHR. Alongside, he will be working on his ongoing research on modern Kerala and contributing to the KCHR Working Paper Series, apart from making himself available for affiliated researchers for research advice.

KCHR is an autonomous organization facilitating research in History and other Social Sciences. It is funded by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Kerala.

Dr. Varghese has done his Doctoral Research from the University of Hyderabad and joined the teaching faculty of History in 2014. He was Assistant Professor at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram and the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, prior to this. His areas of interest include Economic history of Modern India, Transnational migrations, Making of modern subjectivities, Regional modernities and Modern Kerala. He was Charles Wallace India Trust Fellow at Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH), University of Edinburgh (2018); Research Excellence Visiting Fellow at the Central European University, Budapest (2017-18); Visiting Senior Research Fellow, at the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (2014) and an ESRC Visiting Fellow at the University of Sussex (2010-11).
