COSMOS’ 2020: Annual Cultural Fest inaugurated at IIS (deemed to be University)

The Annual Cultural Fest – ‘COSMOS’ 2020 commenced at IIS (deemed to be University) with full fervor on Wednesday. The fest was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Gupta, Vice Chancellor, IIS (deemed to be University). This fest was an endeavor to bring out the extra ordinary talent in students of the University. The fest inaugurated with great pomp and show along with being a witness of multiple cultural and literary events. The décor made the university infrastructure come alive, providing students’ aesthetic backgrounds to take photographs. Balloons with Cosmos’ poster were flown to mark the inaugural ceremony of the fest. A flash mob was also organized in the inaugural ceremony of the fest. Dr. Raakhi Gupta, Rector and Registrar, IIS (deemed to be University), Deans of all the various faculties, faculty member and students were also present in the inaugural.

More than 150 students showcased their talent in various competitions on day one.The motive behind this fest was to encourage students to explore all facets of their creative expressions and skills. Solo dance competition, face painting, hand painting, fashion styling, creative writing competitions were some of the attractions of the fest along with the stalls put up for eating and shopping.

Creative writing (English/Hindi)

Going beyond the bounds of normal journalistic and technical forms of literature, using the literary tropes and traditions of poetry and prose, the students participated in writing feature stories focusing on narratives and character development bringing out the writers in them. More than 40 students participated in both English and Hindi creative writing competition.

Solo dance stole the beam light of the fest.

Solo Dance competition witnessed a variety of dance forms such as free-style, classical, hip-hop and various fusion forms. The competition was organized in Vinayak Hall at the University. Students seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed every moment in this show.

Web Page Designing:

On the theme of ‘Colours of Rajasthan’, web page designing competition were organized in the CIT lab. Participants were asked to make web pages using HTML, Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver.

Compos Mentis:

With the objective to test the IQ level and encouraging the students to look beyond their textual knowledge, enabling them to establish a relationship between theory and application of the learnt concept; Compos Mentis- Quiz competition was held on the first day of the Cultural Fest Cosmos. There were three parts in the competition. Students wee asked to write a story by looking at a picture.

Fashion Styling:

Combining the mental image, inventiveness, aesthetic, sensibility and culture and bringing out the style mantra in them, the students actively participated in the fashion Styling competition.

More than 30 students participated in the competition. The theme of the competition was desifirangi. The main attraction of the competition was the Indo-western clothes presented by various participants.

Mask Painting:

In order to symbolize the personality traits, authority, dignity, sophistication, mystery and seduction, the students designed various masks representing the spirits and beings that are important to the ritual using masks.

Stalls stole the show

The other attractions of the fest were the stalls put up at the back lawns from jewelry to clothing to mouthwatering food items. These stalls were enjoyed by the students as well as teachers.

Cooking competition, extempore, group dance, prop tempore, hairstyling, Rangoli and photography competitions will be held on the second day of the fest.
